Why do white supremacists hate Jews? Aren’t they white too? – LGBTQ Nation

Jews will not replace us! Jews will not replace us!

The estimated 1500 neo-Nazi white supremacists blared out this disgusting chant as they marched with their tiki torches through the streets of Charlottesville, Virginia in protest of the scheduled removal of a statue commemorating Civil War General Robert E. Lee. This march was reminiscent of similar events held throughout Germany, and in particular, in Nuremberg during the Nazi era.

So why do self-described white supremacists target Jews, many who appear white? The answer, stemming from a long and complex history, is quite simple: Though Jewish people are members of every so-called race, even Jews of European heritage (Ashkenazim) have been and still continue to be racially othered by some dominant Christian European-heritage communities in some quarters.

For this reason, members of white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups engage in religious, ethnic, and racial bigotry against all groups they consider non-white, including Jews. In other words, anti-Jewish prejudice and discrimination (a.k.a. anti-Semitism) is a form of racism.

The Racialization of Jews

Looking back on the historical emergence of the concept of race, critical race theorists remind us that this concept arose concurrently with the advent of European exploration as a justification for conquest and domination of the globe beginning in the 15th century of the Common Era (CE) and reaching its apex in the early 20th century CE.

Biologists and geneticists tell us that there is often more variability within a given so-called race than between races, and that there are no essential genetic markers linked specifically to race. They assert, therefore, that race is an historical, scientific, biological myth, an idea, and that any socially-conceived physical racial markers are fictional and are not concordant with what is beyond or below the surface of the body.

Though biologists and social scientists have proven unequivocally that the concept of race is socially constructed (produced, manufactured), however, this does not negate the very real consequences people face living in societies that maintain racist policies and practices on the individual, interpersonal, institutional, and larger societal levels.

For millennia, some Christian theologians distinguished Jews as different from and inferior to Christians on religious grounds. A number of passages within the Christian testaments were used to give justification for persecuting Jews. For example, Matthew 27:24-25, and in 1 Thessalonians 2:15-16:

[T]he Jews, who killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets and drove us out, the Jews who are heedless of Gods will and enemies of their fellow man.All this time they have been making up the full measure of their guilt, and now retribution has overtaken the good of all.

They also often equated Jews to the Devil:

Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778), born Carl Linn, (also know as the Father of Scientific Racism), a Swedish botanist, physician, and zoologist, developed a system of scientific hierarchical classification. Within this taxonomy under the label Homo sapiens, (Man), he enumerated five categories based initially on place of origin and later on skin color: Europaeus, Asiaticus, Americanus, Monstrosus, and Africanus.

Linnaeus asserted that each category was ruled by a different bodily fluid (Humors: moistures), represented by Blood (optimistic), Phlegm (sluggish), Choler (yellow bile: prone to anger), Melancholy (black bile: prone to sadness).

Linnaeus connected each human category to a respective humor, thereby constructing the Linnaeus Taxonomy in descending order:

Social Darwinism & Eugenics

Later, although Charles Darwin himself did not assert this, some of Darwins successors, referred to as Social Darwinists, hypothesized that Jews no longer were simply a separate religious, ethnic, or political group, but rather, like black Africans and other groups (including homosexuals), Jews were throwbacks to earlier stages of religious and human development. Social Darwinists forwarded a so-called racial hierarchy placing Aryans on the top, black Africans at the lower end, and other races (including Jews) at various points in between.

In Europe, by the late 19th century CE, Judaism had come to be viewed by the scientific community as a distinct racial type, with essential immutable biological characteristics a trend that increased markedly into the early 20th century CE.

Westerville police want to hear from residents who received leaflets – The Columbus Dispatch

Jim Woods The Columbus Dispatch @Woodsnight

Westerville police are asking the public to contact them if they received one of the recruitment leaflets from a white nationalist group that were randomly distributed Sunday morning on front lawns in the Annehurst neighborhood.

In the same neighborhood, another family Sunday morning found the word “Jew” written in shaving cream on the bottom of the driveway.

Col. Jesse Hibbert of the Westerville police said Monday night that police still don’t know if the two incidents are linked.

“To me, that it happened on the same night, it seemed odd to me,” Hibbert said.

Lara Palay, who lives on Rundlet Court, said her husband, Darren Thompson, found the graffiti on their front driveway. She and two sonsare of Jewish descent.

“We called the police because we thought it should be taken seriously,” Palay said. She said the family has been heartened by the outpouring of support they have received from neighbors and the community.

The shaving cream incident is a property crime and could possibly be considered ethnic intimidation, Hibbert said.

The leaflets pose another issue. The handout is from the National Socialist Movement and states that it advocates socialist goals, but alsosays they arededicated to the preservation of working European-Americans and oppose race mixing and nonwhite immigration. A phone number on the leaflets goes to a recorded phone message from the Detroit-based organization, stating they represent “white interests” and “white America.”

The Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks extremist groups, says the National Socialist Movement is known for its violent, anti-Jewish rhetoric and has its roots in the original American Nazi Party.

However, Hibbert said the leaflet did not appear to cross legal lines because itdoes not target specific groups or people.

“Though disgusting, there is nothing illegal about it, per se,” Hibbert said.

Westerville police still would like to know who distributed them.

A posting by Westerville police on Twitter stated: “Hate speech, prejudice and hate crimes are unacceptable. Thank you to our citizens for standing up to fight against injustice and for acceptance.”

Balbo did the right thing – Chicago Tribune

It seems like Italo Balbo just became residual shrapnel from the barrage of bullets the rest of the country is firing over what to do with the approximate 1,500 Confederate place names and other symbols in public spaces.

Italian-Americans and others throughout Chicagoland are wondering why the memory of Balbos remarkable accomplishments is being swept into the national wave of removing the past.

Eighty-four years ago Gen. Italo Balbos air armada landed at Chicagos Worlds Fair marking the first mass flight of planes crossing the North Atlantic. The transatlantic crossing was rightly recognized as one of the most important and best executed aeronautical achievements of that time.

The day of his arrival on the lakefront was the single most memorable and important day in the history of Chicagos Italian-American community. President Franklin Roosevelt honored him at the White House. And now Balbos name is in question because of misinformation.

We want to be perfectly clear. Italo Balbo was an outspoken opponent of the Mussolini tilt towards Hitler and was not the enemy many in the Chicago City Council are portraying he was.

Despite being a general under Benito Mussolini, when Balbo saw where Mussolini was going with his pro-German policies, Balbo was horrified. He was one of the only Fascists in Mussolinis regime to openly oppose Italys anti-Jewish racial laws and Italys alliance with Germany. Mussolinis disagreements with Balbo led to Mussolini exiling him to serve as the governor of Libya.

Italo Balbo was never an enemy of the United States. He was an inspiration to Italian-Americans and to those in aviation. Balbo did the right thing: Opposed Mussolini in his darkest time. Why should the City Council bring Chicagoland Italian-Americans into a dark corner when our community shines so brightly with all ethnic groups?

The ABC Accused Of Being Anti-Jewish & Doing The Dirty Work For Islamists – B&T

The ABC has been accused of being anti-Jewish after the public broadcaster aireda map of the Middle Eastduring a TV bulletin last Thursday that didnt show Israel.

The incident has infuriated Jewish leaders, however, the ABC has said the map only showed Middle Eastern nations which had laws that allowed rapists to marry theirvictims and, as it wasnt relevant to Israel the country was not shown. Check out the offending map below:

An ABC spokesperson said of the offending map: The map showed countries where this law had already been repealed (in blue) and countries where campaigners were actively trying to have it repealed (in yellow).

Our understanding is that this law does not exist in Israel, and never has, so it was not shown on the map, the spokesperson said.

However, the Israel-free map infuriated Australian Jewish leader and activist Avi Yemini who took to Facebook and said: Last night ABCwiped Israel off their map.Theyre literally doing the Islamists dirty work for them.

Yemini later told The Daily Mail that the map was theABCs attempt to appeal to the Jew-hating crowd.

He added: The time has come for the ABC to stop its constant attacks on one of our closest allies and the only real democracy in the Middle East, Israel.

This is yet another great example of why we should defund the ABC immediately, he said.

Meanwhile, The Australian has also weighed-in on the debate with a story titled, ABC online ignores Muslim lawyer Haset Salis burka ban support.

Over the weekend, The Oz picked up comments by prominent Australian MuslimHaset Sali who had publicly backed Pauline Hansons calls to ban the burqa in Australia.

According to the report, Sali told ABC radio last Friday that, I dont often applaud Pauline Hanson whether its a stunt or an initiative to highlight something thats unnecessary baggage that has been dumped in with Islam (but) its about time the myth of the burka being Islamic dress was blown out of the water

The sooner Muslim women get rid of this hideous garb the better, he said.

The Oz noted that the ABC had extensively covered Pauline Hansons comments and recent burqa stunt in the senate, yet had left Mr Salis comments largely ignored.

Sali himself told The Oz that it was strange his comments did not make it to other ABC news sites.

Apparently it was not accepted for online publication, he said. I am not going to speculate as to why it didnt go online as I wasnt there when the decision was made.

Nothing surprises me. Unfortunately there is an element of people in the media who dont want to hear the good news about Islam. They just want to bury it.

More British Jews considering move abroad as anti-Semitism fears … – Sky News

Almostone in three British Jews has considered moving abroad in the past two years, a survey has found.

One in six British Jews (17%) reported feeling unwelcome in Britain and over a third (37%) said they had felt the need to conceal their Judaism in public.

The findings come from a large-scale study by the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism which surveyed nearly 4,000 members of the community during 2016 and 2017.

They found that 31% of British Jews had considered moving abroad, a rise from 28% during their last survey two years ago.

Some 65% of respondents said they believed the Government was not doing enough to protect them, and over four-fifths feel the Labour party is too tolerant of anti-Semitism.

However, a separate YouGov survey, carried out for the CAA, found that anti-Semitic attitudes in UK society, measured by how many respondents agreed with seven anti-Semitic statements, were declining, with the number of people who agreed with at least one statement down from 45% in 2015 to 36% in 2017.

The campaign group works on bringing cases of anti-Semitism to justice, and chairman Gideon Falter told Sky News the findings should be “a shot across the bows” for the authorities.

Mr Falter said: “We’ve got a very serious situation where on the one hand, British society is very effectively starting to shun anti-Semitism, but the institutions we rely on to protect our communities are not doing enough.

“We’ve been talking about it for years and years. When are they going to wake up?”

The CAA claims only around two dozen anti-Jewish crimes are prosecuted every year but the Crown Prosecution Service said it did not recognise the figure.

A spokesman said: “Tackling hate crime in all its forms is a priority for the CPS and last year we prosecuted over 15,000 cases more than ever before.”

Mandy Blumenthal, who is in her 50s and runs a commercial property company, told Sky News she was making preparations to move to Israel.

Ms Blumenthal spent most of her life in Birmingham where her father, a former Major in the British Army, served as Lord Mayor and her mother worked as a magistrate. She has encountered anti-Jewish prejudice, and knows others who have been targeted with verbal and physical abuse.

“I was always very happy in England, I come from a normal British family, my parents were so proud to be British and our ethos at home was always that you have to give back to society,” she said.

“I can’t believe I’m having to do this but I’m literally scared not of what’s going to be happening in England tomorrow or even next year, but I think within the next 10 years it will not be tolerable for Jews here.”

Others in north London had dramatically different experiences.

Jodeci, a student from Ilford, who wears a Jewish skullcup, said he was shocked by the finding that one in three Jews had considered emigrating.

He said: “I’ve had an extremely good approach from people to the fact that I’m Jewish. I feel very safe here.”

Earlier this year the Community Security Trust, another organisation which monitors anti-Semitism, recorded 1,309 incidents of anti-Jewish hate last year, compared with 960 in 2015 – a rise of 36%.

They included 107 violent assaults and 65 incidents of damage and desecration to Jewish property, as well as more than 1,000 incidents of abusive behaviour in person and on social media.

Responding to the survey, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid said: “Our Hate Crime Action Plan sets out how we will tackle these crimes, boost reporting to the police and Community Security Trust and help victims rebuild their lives.

“We are also providing an extra 13.4m to protect Jewish faith schools and synagogues.”

Anti-Semitism alive and too well – The Register-Guard

Blaming the up-tick in anti-Semitism in the U.S. on one Israeli teenager (or the Israeli government) ignores a dangerous trend that has included an emboldened white-supremacist movement and the most recent rally in Charlottesville Va., in which alt-right protesters carried Nazi flags and shouted anti-Semitic slogans, and a neo-Nazi drove into a crowd, killing one and injuring many.

Anti-Semitism is real and should be everyones concern. It has been used for centuries as a divide-and-rule tactic to keep us from challenging and changing an unjust economic system.

Anti-Semitism operates in cycles, with periods of overt violence and attacks on the Jewish community (the most horrific was the Holocaust), alternating with periods of apparent calm and relative acceptance of Jews. Anti-Jewish sentiments live under the surface, and can be stirred up and manipulated during times of civil unrest when the powerful need a distraction and a scapegoat to divide and confuse the public in order to hold onto their power.

We live in perilous times. At a time when human-caused global warming threatens the survival of human civilization as we know it, when our survival depends on us uniting as never before, lets see anti-Semitism (and the scapegoating of any group) for what it is a dangerous tool of the powerful and not let it weaken us, or distract us from the very real, critically important concerns that we must unite around in order to protect present and future generations.

When are they going to wake up?” The CAA claims only around two dozen anti-Jewish crimes are prosecuted every year but the Crown Prosecution Service said it did not recognise the figure. A spokesman said: “Tackling hate crime in all its forms is a priority for the CPS and last year we prosecuted over 15,000 cases more than ever before.” Mandy Blumenthal, who is in her 50s and runs a commercial property company, told Sky News she was making preparations to move to Israel. “I can’t believe I’m having to do this but I’m literally scared not of what’s going to be happening in England tomorrow or even next year, but I think within the next 10 years it will not be tolerable for Jews here.” Others in north London had dramatically different experiences. Jodeci, a student from Ilford, who wears a Jewish skullcup, said he was shocked by the finding that one in three Jews had considered emigrating. He said: “I’ve had an extremely good approach from people to the fact that I’m Jewish. I feel very safe here.” Earlier this year the Community Security Trust, another organisation which monitors anti-Semitism, recorded 1,309 incidents of anti-Jewish hate last year, compared with 960 in 2015 – a rise of 36%.

Fair Use Disclaimer

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Under the 'fair use' rule of copyright law, an author may make limited use of another author's work without asking permission. Fair use is based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism. The fair use privilege is perhaps the most significant limitation on a copyright owner's exclusive rights.

Fair use as described at 17 U.S.C. Section 107:

"Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phono-records or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.

In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

  • (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for or nonprofit educational purposes,
  • (2) the nature of the copyrighted work,
  • (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
  • (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work."
