YouTuber Gets in Fight With Antifa at NYC May Day Protests, Police Build Wall to Bring Peace – Heat Street

Trump supporters and Antifas clashed briefly at Union Square in New York City during the May Day protests Monday.

Leftists, communist Antifa and other similar groups gathered in the park to advocate for workers rights and protest PresidentTrumps immigration actions. Around midday a group of Trump supporters arrived, and the scene quickly devolved into violence.

Trump-supporting streamer and YouTuber Brittany Venti was arrested after appearing to hit an Antifa member. Video of the altercation, however, seems to show Venti getting hit first.

Police swept in and built a wall, ironically, around the Trump supporters to keep them separated from the other protesters. For the rest of the protest, the Trump supporters yelled at anti-Trumpers from across a barricade.

Thus peace was restored to Union Square. Maybe theres something to this wall idea.

Berkeley Plans to Fight Left-Wing Violence With ‘Laughter Yoga’, Singing and Bubbles – Heat Street

The City of Berkeleyhas floated the idea of setting up areas for fencing with sponge noodles or laughter yoga (among other things) and having quiet conversations with anti-fascist groups in order to stop violence.

Berkeley, a campus city run by radical mayor Jesse Arreguin, has recently been ground zero ofthe ongoing free speech wars. In February, the city turned into a violent battlefield after a mob of radical black-clad left-wing activists shut down Milo Yiannopoulos event at the University of California, Berkeley.

Shortly after that, free speech supporters held numerousdemonstrations in support of free expression, prompting bloody clashes with antifa groups.

But asthe problem of violence perpetrated by left-wing activists still remains in Berkeley, the city, according to emails acquired by Heat Streetthrough the Public Request Act,is deranged if its current plan to stop the violence is actually enacted.

In an email dated April 20, Downtown Berkeley Association CEO John Cainer come up with a genius idea to stop the violencehave quiet conversations with the radical anarchists and ask them to stop committing violence.

He sharedhis idea to Mayor Jesse Arreguin and his chief of staff Brandi Campbell, writing Do you think there is a possibility of having quiet conversations with leftist activist groups to see is they would be willing to stand down and not show up for May 2 and/or other events?

I know it is probably a long shot, but there would seem to be little risk in quietly doing so, he added.

The cluelessness of the City of Berkeley doesnt stop here. It appears that severalBerkeley Council members, including the Mayor, are subscribed to a Google group called Occupy Bay Area Trainersthe relicsof Occupy Wall Street movement in the area.

In anemail chain, received by multiple council members and the Mayor, City of Berkeley volunteer Commissioner Phoebe Anne Sorgen suggestedstarting a peace force to stop the violence withthings like bubbles singing, and laughter yoga.

Envision Wavy Gravy, bubbles, singing, laughter yoga! Occupella. Buddhist Peace Meditators. Fencing with sponge noodles, she wrote. Will Edwin set up the Empathy tent? How about a volleyball game in the middle of the park and/or a square dance? Will Code Pink pls bring peace symbol cookies to pass out, and daisies.

Interestingly, the commissioners suggestions for an Empathy Tent was actually realizedat a protest at UC Berkeley on April 27.

Sorgenwent on to suggest people shouldnt malignthe black blocananarchist tacticwhen a mob of activists wearing masks committ violencebecause most were ok.

And dont malign the black bloc. Tho they have their bad apples, and provocateurs take advantage of the (tear gas protection) bandana look regrettably, most were ok and, as usual, they also provided the medics last time, she wrote.

If this is the best City of Berkeley can come up with, the problem of radical extremists on the streets will continue.

Fair Use Disclaimer

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Under the 'fair use' rule of copyright law, an author may make limited use of another author's work without asking permission. Fair use is based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism. The fair use privilege is perhaps the most significant limitation on a copyright owner's exclusive rights.

Fair use as described at 17 U.S.C. Section 107:

"Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phono-records or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.

In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

  • (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for or nonprofit educational purposes,
  • (2) the nature of the copyrighted work,
  • (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
  • (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work."
