Ernst Zundel

In the forty-year battle between Ernst Zundel and the Jews, I think we can finally declare a winner. Hold on to your hats, folks, because the end result is a real shocker. In Harry Caray voice: Jews win! Jews win!

Zundel, for those of you who dont know, is a 78-year-old Holocaust denier and Hitler-lover. And when I say Hitler-lover, Im not using the term the way leftists do when referring to anyone slightly to the right of the Weather Underground. The living room of Zundels former home in Pigeon Forge, Tenn., is adorned with a painting of Hitler and Zundel hugging like father and son. Now, thats Hitler-lovin! Zundel sincerely believes Der Fhrer got a bum rap. How could this dog-loving, nonsmoking vegetarian have killed anyone? Zundel has made it his lifes goal to rehabilitate Hitlers image. Its a fools quest. In a rational world, there would never have been a reason for Ernst Zundel to be the topic of a column in The Washington Post by one of the nations finest constitutional scholars. Indeed, the very suggestion of such a thing would be laughable. But it happened, and if Zundels legal travails are important enough to be examined by the WaPos Prof. Eugene Volokh, theyre certainly important enough for this column.

But before we get to todays paper, lets take a look at yesterdays news.

German-born Ernst Zundel immigrated to Canada when he was a teenager. A graphic artist by profession, the adult Zundel spent several decades buzzing around Ontario as a mostly ignored political gadfly, battling negative stereotypes and discrimination against German immigrants (in other words, he was an SJW). In the 1970s, it was revealed that this SJW was actually an SSJW when a local reporter exposed Zundels true passionpublishing pamphlets that praised Hitler and denied the Holocaust.

So, what to do with a guy churning out dime-store Hitler porn, back in the days when there was no internet to allow the neighborhood kook to spread his ideas beyond his own little mailing list? In a sane country, such a man would be ignored. But when it comes to free speech, Canada is about as sane as its favorite immigrant, Vince Li. Canada, egged on incessantly by Canadian Jewish organizations, decided that the best way to deal with the Zundel menace was to give it international publicity, and to give Zundel an unheard-of gift: the ability to grill Holocaust historians and survivors on the witness stand, forcing them, under oath, to cop to errors, omissions, and exaggerations.

Take a moment to wrap your head around that. Canadian authorities and Jewish groups thought Zundel was such a menace, they gave him a one-of-a-kind opportunity to spread his theories and humiliate his opponents.

In attempting to silence Holocaust denial, Jewish groups gave it a megaphone.

My Vince Li comparison doesnt sound so far-fetched now, does it?

Twice in the 1980s, the Canucks put Zundel on trial for spreading false news. This, as much as anything else, is what put Holocaust denial on the map. As I wrote in my book, in a section titled Blame Canada,

The Zundel team was able to grill Holocaust historian Raul Hilberg, who was forced to admit, under cross-examination, that there had never been a plan for what he called the policy of the extermination of the Jews. He was forced to admit that he had never physically studied the remains of the gas chambers at Auschwitz or Majdanek. He admitted that Holocaust revisionism aids historians by challenging their beliefs and bringing about the discovery of new information, and, most startlingly, he admitted the existence of a reliable Nazi document stating that Hitler had decided to put off any decision about the final solution until after the war.

Auschwitz survivor Arnold Friedman was forced to confess that he had never seen any gas chambers at Auschwitz, and that the stories he wrote about were based on rumors that others had told him. And famed Auschwitz survivor and escapee Rudolf Vrba admitted on the stand that his account of what he saw at Auschwitz was actually an artistic picture, not factual evidence. His eyewitness testimony regarding the gas chamber? Its what I heard it might look like.

Zundel was convicted, but his conviction was overturned on appeal. So guess what? The damn puckheads put him on trial again! Both Zundel trials were breathlessly covered by the Canadian and international press. In the end, Zundel won out. His second conviction was overturned by the Canadian Supreme Court (and the false news law was declared unconstitutional). Zundel was not only free but also an international celebrity. A hated one, to be sure. But a celeb all the same.

Following Zundels courtroom victory, Canadian Jewish organizations continued to press the government to find some other way to shut him up. As Zundel had landed only immigrant status in Canada (his attempts to become a citizen had been repeatedly shot down over the years), he decided to throw in the towel and move to the States to live with his equally nutty wife, Ingrid, an American citizen. During this time, the German government, egged on by (wait for it) Jewish organizations, issued a warrant for Zundels arrest. The charge? Denial material he posted on his websitewhile in Tennessee. The German legal theory was that since the internet brought Zundels words into German territory, and since Holocaust denial is illegal in Germany, Zundel had committed a crime on German soil no differently than if hed strangled a guy in Munich.

Of course, free-speech advocates the world over rose up in outrage over such a draconian affront to speech rights. Oh wait, no. Free-speech advocates the world over pursed their lips like Don Knotts and ran away. Well done, free-speech advocates the world over. Well done.

After three years of living peacefully in the U.S., Zundel was dragged from his home in 2003, accused of violating his visa (a charge later questioned by a district court judge in Knoxville). U.S. authorities shipped him back to Toronto, where the Canadians promptly tossed him into a 6-by-8-foot isolation cellfor two years. Post-9/11 laws had given the Canadian government new powers to indefinitely detain people without charge; no need for a trial this time! In 2005, I arranged an interview with The Hamilton Spectators Bill Dunphy (a longtime Zundel foe), who straight-out stated that Zundels appalling treatment resulted from political pressure from groups that are opposed to Zundel and his ideology (i.e., Jewish organizations). Dunphy admitted that these groups demanded Zundel be locked away, and the government acquiesced.

And as Zundel languished in a tomblike cell for denying a past genocide, former Rwandan ruling-party strongman Leon Mugesera, an actual perpetrator of a present-day genocide, was not only allowed to walk free, he even got a teaching job at a prestigious Quebec university (because, from Jim Carrey to Tom Green, Canadians have always loved absurdity).

After two years of what can pretty much only be described as torture (his cell lights were never dimmed, he was allowed no hot food, he was deprived of medicine), Zundel was shipped to Germany, where he was immediately declared a security risk and put in yet another cell without bail as a flight risk. See the logic there? Bring a guy against his will into your country, declare that you dont want him there, and then imprison him because youre afraid hell leave.

Theres that big-brained Deutsche brilliance Hitler was always going on about.

Zundel was sentenced to five years imprisonment for the stuff he legally posted while legally residing in the U.S. The sentence was cheered by (here we go again) Jewish organizations, and, as before, free-speech advocates the world over remained silent.

Zundel was released in 2010, a tired, sickly, broken man. Yay, we got im!

So why was Zundel in The Washington Post last week? Well, leave it to the exceptionally fair-minded UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh (who Ive previously interviewed for this column on an unrelated matter) to dare to examine the legality of Zundels latest nad-kick. Zundel, now 78, had sought to return to the U.S. to join his 80-year-old wife (she cant join him in Germany, because her ideas traveled to Germany and committed crimes too). Volokhs column deserves to be read in full. The short version is, Homeland Security denied the request, stating:

A foreign conviction can be the basis for a finding of inadmissibility only where the conviction is for conduct which is deemed criminal by United States standards.

Volokh points out what should be obvious (but, of course, isnt) to any rational American:

But as best I can tell from press accounts, Zundels speech that formed the basis of his German conviction would not have been deemed criminal by United States standards. Denying the Holocaust and expressing anti-Semitic sentiments is just not a crime under American law. Indeed, it cant be made a crime, given the First Amendment.

Volokh concludes that the ruling appears to have been a violation of American immigration law.

Now, heres where Im gonna lose a few readers. One might be tempted to think that the repeated involvement of Jewish organizations, in multiple countries, in the persecution of Ernst Zundel indicates the presence of some vast international conspiracythe Jewish octopus of anti-Semitic lore. But no, Im actually suggesting the opposite. Jewish advocates were able to get their way regarding Zundel because no one on earth gives a shit about him. When Jews whined, Give us Zundel, it was a very cheap and painless bone to throw them to shut them up. Bully Jews picked on a nobody, and politicians, who never give a damn about nobodies anyway, happily threw him under the bus to stop the kvetching.

But, my Jewish brider, look what the war on Zundel wrought. Holocaust denial was put on the map, and Zundel became an international figure of note. Was it worth it, going after this rotund little bald man? Is it still worth it? Yes, its a victory in that Zundel is finished. Hell probably die soon, and Jews can dance on his grave. Satisfied? But in a broader sense, it was a terrible defeat, in terms of what Zundels bullies were hoping to accomplish versus what they actually did. In attempting to silence Holocaust denial, Jewish groups gave it a megaphone. Worse still, in trying to squash a man who spreads Jewish conspiracy theories, Jews acted just like the vengeful, world-controlling puppeteers Zundel portrays them as. In trying to suppress Zundels crude stereotypes, Jews ended up personifying them.

This is Jewrys Appointment in Samarra, the old fable in which a man, seeking to flee the Reaper, ends up riding straight toward him. The moral of the tale is that sometimes, in our blind desire to avoid an unpleasant fate, we end up bringing it about ourselves.

Such is the sad, bitter legacy of Ernst Zundel.

Auschwitz survivor, well-known Holocaust educator, dies at 92 – Canadian Jewish News (blog)

David Shentow, one of Canadas best-known Holocaust survivors and educators, died June 12 at the age of 92 following a lengthy illness.

By all accounts, Shentow, who was born in Warsaw in 1925, suffered more than most people could bear by the time he was liberated from the Dachau concentration camp on his 20th birthday.

Faced with starvation, hard labour, disease, harsh winters and a death march, Shentow was the only person in his immediate family to come out of the war alive. He lost both his parents and two sisters.

Shentow, who raised two daughters, Renee and Lorie, in Ottawa with his wife of 67 years, Rose, was buried in Toronto on June 14. He had moved to a Toronto nursing home as his health failed so his Toronto-area family could better care for him.

During the funeral service, Eli Rubenstein, national director of March of the Living Canada through which he developed a relationship with Shentow, who joined the trip in the 2000s as an educator recalled some of the horrific stories Shentow told.

Rubenstein shared Shentows account of arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau in late 1942.

Alongside of the station platform, I could see men dressed in what appeared to me to be striped pyjamas and striped caps. I noticed that they were wearing wooden clogs on their bare feet, Rubenstein read.

Suddenly, we were surrounded by SS guards holding on to vicious guard dogs, German shepherds, trained to rip out a prisoners throat instantaneously upon command. Megaphones, used at full power, ordered us to vacate the train immediately. We had less than 10 seconds to obey that first command. Any passenger who offered the least sign of resistance was shot on the spot.

David also saw a Nazi grab a crying baby and slam its tiny body against the side of the boxcar, instantly killing it. I knew I was in hell, David would say later.

When Shentow was liberated in 1945, and after discovering his entire family had been murdered, he decided to start a new life, and moved in 1949 to Toronto, where his uncle lived.

His uncle set him up with Rose Feldberg, who was 18 at the time, and visiting from Ottawa.

Rubenstein said Rose told him it was love at first sight, and they were married within six weeks, settling in Ottawa.

Among the qualities Rose [fell in love with] were his humanity, his sensitivity, his wonderful sense of humour, his respect for women, Rubenstein said.

Shentows daughter Renee spoke about the relationship she had with her father, the impact he had on her and the wisdom he imparted.

My dad was an honourable, ethical, compassionate man. Others may speak about my fathers experiences as a Holocaust survivor of the awards and accolades he has received for his community involvement. Instead, Im going to share some memories of my father so that you might know him like I did, she said to an intimate gathering of about 25, fighting back tears.

When I was young, he was what we now call a stay-at-home-dad, she said, explaining that he encouraged his wife to go back to school to become a teacher. Definitely unconventional in the 1950s and early 60s.

She said her father had a great sense of humour that could make her smile even in the worst of times.

I remember when I was feeling kind of low, depressed, miserable when I turned 40, and I said to my dad, Dad, I cant believe Im 40. And he said, How do you think I feel? I have a daughter who is 40!

Shentow balanced his sense of humour with his ability to impart practical wisdom that continues to guide Renee today.

She recalled when she complained about sleepless nights with her baby, he told her, One night of the baby not sleeping through the night is one night closer to when the baby will. I have employed that saying over and over when facing situations that never seem to end. I sometimes wonder if he survived the camps because he thought, One more day of hell is one day closer to liberation.

Renee said her father didnt talk about his experiences in the Holocaust when she was young, But then the Holocaust deniers started talking and my parents felt it was important for my father to educate people and tell them the true story, she said.

Rubenstein said when Shentow learned about people like Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel in the 1980s, he said, I would crawl on my hands and knees all the way to Auschwitz-Birkenau, or anywhere else, to tell my story to anyone who was willing to listen.

Renee said she will miss her fathers wisdom, optimism and his strength.

From now on, when faced with a decision to make, I will think, What would my dad do? and that will be my guide.

Shentow is survived by his wife, two children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

David Shentow was Ottawa’s best known Holocaust survivor and … – Ottawa Citizen

David Shentow, a Holocaust survivor who was born on April 29, 1925 in Warsaw, died recently. Sean Kilpatrick / Postmedia

When he was liberated from Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945 his 20th birthday David Shentow weighed just 76 pounds, but carried more memories than most men could bear.

He had survived the Nazi occupation of Belgium, a forced-labour camp, the Auschwitz concentration camp, the Warsaw Ghetto, a death march and Dachau.

He went home to Antwerp, Belgium, in the hopes of reuniting with relatives: Although he had heard his mother, father and two sisters had perished in Nazi death camps, he thought some of his aunts, uncles and cousins might come back to the Jewish Community Centre.

The lonely weeks that followed were the most painful of his life.

I realized Im the only one, he once told the Citizen. Out of 17 people, Im the only one who came back.

Shentow would start a new life in Canada, and go on to become one of Ottawas best known Holocaust survivors and educators. For three decades, he was a tireless witness to history, suffering his memories in classrooms, auditoriums and museums so that others could understand the truth of the Final Solution the Nazi policy that systematically killed almost two out of every three European Jews by 1945.

When I talk about it, he explained, I always feel Im not the only witness anymore. All these people who hear me, they are witnesses now.

David Shentow died Monday in a Toronto nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was 92.

My father was the most honourable man I have ever known, said his daughter, Rene Shentow, 66, of Toronto. He made it his mission to tell the truth.

Debbie Weiss, chair of the Holocaust Committee for the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, said Shentow was a powerful witness because his testimony was so forthright, clear and honest. He also had a vulnerability, she said, that set him apart from other Holocaust survivors, many of whom were toughened by the horrors they experienced.

David was different: He was a gentle soul, said Weiss. He exposed a vulnerability that most do not have, and I believe it is what touched so many.

Carleton University professor Deidre Butler, director of The Max and Tessie Zelikovitz Centre for Jewish Studies, called Shentow profoundly courageous. He spoke with warmth and seriousness and a naked honesty about what he had been through and you could see his pain, she said. He did it without hatred and with a real conviction that it honoured the victims, and that it worked against Holocaust denial.

Shentow was born David Krzetowski in Warsaw, Poland in 1925. (He would change his name to Shentow upon arriving in Canada.) His family moved to Belgium while he was still an infant to escape the violent tides of Polish anti-Semitism.His father, Moishe, prospered as a tailor and the family put down roots in Antwerp.

David Shentows mother and father, Rifka and Moishe, moved from Poland toBelgium in 1925 to escape the violent tides of Polish anti-Semitism. They perished in the Holocaust. Bruno Schlumberger / Ottawa

On May 10, 1940, when the Germans launched co-ordinated attacks on Belgium, Holland and France, he packed his young family into a car and fled toward the French border, but the Nazis got there first. The family was forced to return to Antwerp.

In occupied Belgium, the Gestapo forced Jews to surrender their radios and bicycles, then decreed they could no longer attend school, go to the theatre or sit on park benches. They were made to wear the Star of David.

In August 1942, Shentow and his father were sent to a forced labour camp near Dieppe, France to build German fortifications. He was separated from his father, and months later, was loaded onto a train that took him across occupied Europe to Auschwitz, Poland, where he became prisoner 72585, a number tattooed on his left forearm.

In Auschwitz, Shentow would remember, the prisoners slept three to a bunk; their 12-hour workday began at 6 a.m.; they were fed once a day: two slices of bread, a thin soup and coffee. They worked through the winter in striped cotton pyjamas, a cap and wooden clogs.

I didnt know if I would freeze to death or starve to death, he once said.

Shentow credited a friendly Polish prisoner with saving his life by arranging a job for him inside the camp tailor shop.

In 1943, he was one of 4,000 prisoners sent to level what remained of Warsaws Jewish Ghetto, which had been razed by the Nazis after a spring uprising. In August 1944, as the Russian army advanced toward Warsaw, the prisoners were marched 100 kilometres west to Kutno, Poland, and crammed onto cattle cars bound for Dachau.

After the war, with no relatives left in Belgium, Shentow emigrated to Canada. He arrived in March 1949 and went to work in a womenswear shop in Toronto. There, he met a young woman visiting from Ottawa, Rose Feldberg, and the two quickly became inseparable.

Shentow moved to Ottawa and they married in February 1950. Shentow worked at Hudsons Bay department store for 28 years, and together with Rose, they raised two daughters, Rene and Lorie.

He was a doting father who kept his family close. He was funny and he always knew what to say to make me feel better, said Rene.

For many years, Shentow didnt talk about the Holocaust, not even to his children. He only began to recount his ordeal after Ernst Zundel and other Holocaust deniers began to make headlines in the 1980s.

My father was such a modest, understated kind of man, it was painful for him to talk about his experiences, but he felt it was important, said Rene.

Shentow returned four times to Auschwitz to take part in the March of the Living, a Holocaust education program, and appeared in several documentary films. He retold his story to students in Belgium, Israel and across Canada, and always asked that his audience not applaud. Im not an entertainer, he would admonish. I am a witness.

His health declined during the final three years of his life, and he moved to Toronto earlier this year so that his family could better care for him. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose, their two children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Wetbacks in Reverse? Ernst Zundel banned forever from Land …

By Dr. Ingrid R. Zundel on April 29, 2017

“Give us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”

[ Note: After 14 years of legal wrangling at the cost of millions of dollars to both sides, the US government has ruled on discretionary grounds by an unelected bureaucrat named Ron Rosenberg, Chief, Administrative Appeals Office of the US Department of Homeland Security, that Ernst Zndel is banned from joining his family in the US.

According to this ruling, a dissident contesting a disputed historical claim such as the Auschwitz gassing is now a criminal of moral turpitude. Can it get any more Kafkaesque?

More will be said about this latest Zundel development at a later time. For now, here is the latest installment of the ever-expanding Global Zundel-Saga Ingrid Zundel ]

*

Ernst Zndel, in his own words:

Ernst and Ingrid Zundel: Wetbacks in Reverse?

Within hours of my illegal arrest in February 2003, fourteen years ago, I had been given an expulsion order with stiff penalties, should I dare to set foot in America ever again in the future. Should I be so brazen as to attempt a re-entry and be caught, I was to be arrested forthwith, detained, tried, and found guilty and put in prison to face a 20-year sentence as an illegal re-offender.

Not only that, I risked a $250,000 fine for being such a fire-breathing dissident insisting on free speech on a forbidden topic all this still in handcuffs, without being allowed to at least see an immigration judge to explain that I was not an illegal I had been in the immigration pipeline to be admitted to legal residence as a relative to an American citizen wife.

The day that Ernst Zundel was released from his 7-year prison term, supporters greeted him (file photo)

I had been given a social security number, a health check, two FBI checks that cleared me of any wrong-doing, inoculations, a work permit, a travel permit the works! Not that any of this mattered at this point in the more than decades-long legal nightmare that followed. I was convicted despite all airtight evidence that I was not a visa overstay as had been falsely claimed.

Once I had served my time of seven years in six prisons in three countries on two continents for having asked Did Six Million Really Die and after having successfully passed my probation hurdle of an additional three years I was left, more or less, to my own devices.

My passport had been given back to me. It allowed me to travel to Russia, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland and elsewhere, visiting friends and loyal supporters, always wondering when the next trap would fall shut on me what other judicial injustice was waiting.

I also tried to see Ingrid at least twice a year, always in some dishevelled Third World country. When traveling to Belize, the Dominican Republic, Mexico etc. to meet Ingrid who cannot travel to Europe because we know for certain there were at least two Interpol arrest warrants out for her as well because of her Zundelsite/Internet work I usually had to overfly Canada and the USA.

On this latest trip on March 15, as I wistfully looked down on the plane at the outboard display, crossing Greenland, Island, Quebec, New York State and moseying along the Eastern seaboard and then inland, almost reaching Tennessee I wondered what would happen to me if the plane was, in fact, forced to make an emergency landing in the United States or Canada.

There was this possibility. This threat was looming against me in the background. What if something happened mechanically to the plane and I was forced to step onto the so-called free-est country in the world and be re-arrested?

Thus, when I boarded the Condor flight on the 15th of March to Cancun where Ingrid was waiting for me, I was keenly aware that I was entering a danger zone. This was a daylight flight unlike other Condor flights I had been on where I could at least sleep through the night. These long, non-stop international flights are hard on my body and psyche. By the time yet another new Zndel drama unfolded, I hadnt slept for almost 30 hours.

As I looked out of the airplane window, I saw a shadowy, bluish fog of sorts that seemed to come out of a small crack of one of these jumbo-jet wings that kept us afloat. I watched it for a while, unease on my mind. It didnt go away it just curled into itself and dissolved.

Suddenly, there was a crackled message from the Captain in the cockpit announcing that we were experiencing difficulty with the planes fuel gauges, which seemed to be malfunctioning. This meant, the Captain informed us in a terse voice, that we would have to make an unscheduled emergency landing at the nearest US airport.

Here was what I had always feared!

This nearest airport turned out to be an airstrip in St. Louis, MO, not exactly a home base for large passenger jets. As we descended, I could see the tarmac, old and run-down, with grass growing out of its crevices! With white knuckles, we all held onto our seats. After one of the roughest landings I have ever experienced, we rolled to a stop and were asked to deplane, using a rickety ladder, flanked by several dozen US firefighters in full gear all of them huge, nice, friendly men next to their flashing fire trucks. Clearly we had landed in the backwoods somewhere of the USA and here I was, being asked to step down onto the hallowed soil of the free-est country in the world risking yet another 20 years in gaol!

I knew that the Captain had no choice but to alert US Homeland Security and the border police of my illegal entry status. I rang for the flight attendant to let her know about my predicament that my very presence in the US might cause an international incident, as they like to say in legalese. She looked at me, incredulous. Who was that placid senior citizen who looked as normal and as harmless as can be?

She scurried to inform the folks in the cockpit.

Next, the Captain came to see me, wanting to know what, exactly, I had done. I told him I was being punished for spreading historical truth I had published a booklet with a politically incorrect question mark the Global Noisy Lobby didnt like. He was shaking his head, looking doubtful. He, too, was left speechless, not knowing what next to do with this senior citizen passenger, almost 80 years of age, who sat there, smiling blithely, expecting to be handcuffed so as not to threaten the almighty USA!

I was the last to deplane. I was flanked by two huge black border guards, armed to the teeth. Off we marched, with me giving the thumbs-up sign to some 250+ co-passengers who stepped aside to let us through, bewildered and aghast. Everybody stared at me as though I had come from the moon.

This emergency landing clearly overwhelmed the airport personnel, and we had to wait for hours in a rundown, seedy reception area out of the 1950s. The two guards stayed by my side as though glued to my hips, and there was enough time to have a little friendly chat in the meantime. This was not the first time that I had entertained my captors with my woes as well as some hilarious highlights of my intrepid dissident past and by the time it was my turn to have my passport checked, the three of us had now become fast friends.

Next, we were told US authorities were going to admit us legally into the US as visitors! Fat chance for me, I thought! All the while, I feared, I might be sent back to the Vaterland. I crossed my fingers and toes in hopes that would not happen. But luck was on my side. I, too, was bureaucratically paroled into Missouri, USA a minor miracle!

At first it looked like the fuel line problem could be easily repaired, and that we could fly on to Cancun. However, the mechanical problems were too difficult for the local mechanics to fix, and it was decided to order a replacement plane from Germany. That would take another 12 13 hours with me getting ever more groggy from lack of sleep, lack of food and drink, and a simmering, low-level anxiety that sat in the pit of my heart.

Meanwhile, our passports were scanned; finger prints and iris scans were made of each passenger; and of course, thanks to Internet bio information about me that had been surreptitiously studied by the American authorities as well as several passengers, I took on ever more the trappings of an heroic global dissident celebrity.

I began to be treated not just with curiosity but with an open, smiling reverence by black and white alike. I will always remember a few of them with great fondness for instance, a tall, handsome Mexican-American veteran, with decades of experience in the US military, as well as a picture-book tall, blue-eyed Aryan from the Midwest, coming from a family of nine children.

All of them were super-correct in their treatment of me very helpful and accommodating. I told them that I felt homesick for my beloved little art gallery in the Tennessee Mountains and being so near to where Ingrid and I had our place.

Ernst at home in Tennessee

Those uniformed, battle-hardened men seemed visibly moved. There sat a real live, officially criminalized White Supremacist-Holocaust-denying-Hate-monger among otherwise perfectly normal people, looking and talking exactly like them! A criminal of moral turpitude is how the US government documents described me!

Once again, I was the last one to be checked before having been granted parole, and promptly taken to a room for secondary screening. This procedure took several more hours of interviews by security people, and in the end, I was patted down and thoroughly searched, all my belongings, my money, my address book seized and I was taken to a holding cell, windowless, brightly illuminated the kind that I had already experienced in my decades-long travails while battling one of the worlds most vicious political lobbies.

The personnel who checked me into this cell seemed ashamed of what they were ordered to do and fell all over themselves letting me know that they did not approve of this travesty and were simply following Homeland Security orders.

I was given some small pillows, two bright yellow FEMA blankets to avoid hypothermia, and my two black, uniformed police or border guards, still armed to the teeth, told me that this was going to be my home until the replacement plane from Germany had arrived.

Thank you to some of the dedicated people who protect our country (file photo)

Soon additional, ever-so-friendly American guards came with three bottles of water, some potato chips and a hearty ham sandwich. No Muslim terrorist, this one, expecting special dietary favors!

It was long after midnight. I slept a little, in spite of the bright lights. There was a video camera on the ceiling, the usual surveillance equipment.

The hours passed slowly. After a while, two officers came to see me for an update. They told me that the plane from Germany was experiencing strong headwinds and would again be several hours later than expected.

The night shift changed to the day shift, and familiar faces officers I had talked with before in the waiting room came to take over. Obviously, they too had checked up on me on the Net. They brought me a tooth brush and toothpaste, and a little later, to my utter surprise, a piping hot pizza and a delicious California salad, along with more water and even a Coca Cola crowning this hatemonger prison fare feast with a piece of delicious blueberry pie.

To my relief, there was no attempt to send me back to Germany and once the plane arrived, we were all processed one more time and allowed to board the replacement Condor plane. It was about 8:30 pm, March 16, by the time we took off to Cancun!

I did not have a telephone number for Ingrid, since no phone had been as yet installed in our little home in Mexico. I cleared the Mexican customs, got all the proper stamps, took an airport taxi and arrived at the door of my very relieved American citizen lady who greeted me with Am I happy to see you!

We had lots to tell each other long after midnight wrapped in two bright yellow FEMA blankets I had asked to have as souvenirs, which the guards had allowed me to keep.

Give us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free

Horst Mahler, German neo-Nazi, arrested in Hungary – Religious Reader (press release) (blog)

The arrest of an 81-year-old former left-wing terrorist who turned to neo-Nazism and received a 10-year prison sentence for Holocaust denial has rallied neo-Nazis as far as Luxembourg.

German media reported that the neo-Nazi extremist Horst Mahler had applied for political asylum in Hungary where Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who praises the authoritarian models of Russia and China, is cracking down on political opponents, the judiciary, refugees, the press, and universities.

In 2009, a German court sentenced Mr Mahler to 10 years in prison, for racial offences and Holocaust denial. Due to ill-health, he left prison in 2015, but rather than face news charges accumulated in prison, he went on the run.

Hungarian police confirmed his arrest on May 15. Officials informed the New York Times, that application from Mr Mahler on asylum grounds would be rejected due to his German citizenship.

Mahlers switch in political extremes makes him an unusual and notorious figure in Germany. Yet, a consistent for Mr Mahler was his antisemitism. In an interview with Vanity Fair in 2007, he said that others in the terrorist group he helped found, the Red Army Faction (RAF), agreed with his view that Jewish people were the devil. He went on to clarify that this form of antisemitism was cloaked in opposition to American imperialism. Mahlers father adored Hitler, having killed himself in 1949 when Horst was thirteen.

The political scientist, Jan Rathje, who specialises in tracking far-right movements, told Deutsche Welle: Already in the RAF there were anti-Semitic connotations, and Mr Mahler had simply followed this consistent path towards the far-right.

In the political unrest of the late 1960s and early 1970s, Mr Mahler gave legal counsel to prominent leftists including Andreas Baader and Gudrun Ensslin, who would later join him in the creation of the RAF. Horst involved himself in several bank robberies and a plot to break Baader out of prison.

In 1973, he was sentenced to fourteen years in prison but gained early release in 1980 after making several public statements condemning terrorism and the RAF. Years earlier, authorities noted a change in Horsts ideology, declaring in 1977 that he was being internally freed from the dogmatic revolutionary theory of Marxism-Leninism. During the 1990s, Horst grew more prominent in the extreme-right scene, later joining the extreme far-right National Democratic Party (NPD) in 2000.

Mr Mahler used his legal background to defend the NPD in a constitutional battle with the German government who wanted the party banned. This collapsed in 2003, as it emerged that key witnesses were government-paid informants. In that same year, a court in Mainz fined Mr Mahler several thousand euros for justifying the 9/11 terror attacks. He would also leave the NPD citing the partys desire to enter parliament, a position that was antithetical to his Reichsbrger stance, a loose movement that refuses to recognise the Federal Republic.

A fusion of antisemitism, xenophobia, and anti-American conspiracies helped the NPD almost double its membership to 6,500 between 1996 and 2000, their message resonated with unemployed youth in eastern Germany. Experts pointed to the potent danger of Mahlers fusion of antisemitism and anti-imperialist nationalism.

East Germany is still a fertile political ground for the NPD, with 264 of its 338 local council seats found in the region. The party did not make any progress in regional assemblies, as it did not reach the election threshold last September.

A study by the Gttingen Institute for Democracy Studies found that old cultural attitudes carried over from the communist-era explain the virulent levels of xenophobia in east Germany. In short, the report documents how a selective cultural memory fuses and a failure to reconcile Nazi-era antisemitism helps fuel the scapegoating of foreigners for social and economic woes. This closed and ethnically homogenised society increases their vulnerability to the narratives of populists and the far-right. The study was commissioned following a rise in extreme right-wing violence in 2015.

In January 2017, Germanys constitutional court rejected another bid to have the NPD banned, citing its lack of threat to German democracy. A move that drew broad criticism.

In 2005, Horst was dismissed from the legal team of notorious Holocaust denier Ernst Zundel, for having a racist conviction. Two years later, Zundel was found guilty of 14 counts of incitement to racial hatred and given a five-year prison sentence, the largest prison term available under German law for Holocaust denial.

An All-Purpose Hate Group – pride source.com

An All-Purpose Hate Group

BY VICTOR LIEBERMAN Originally printed 5/5/2017 (Issue 2518 – Between The Lines News)

Everyone knows that Donald Trump’s election has given new life to racist and homophobic groups. But too few Ann Arborites know that one of the most notorious of such groups is active in our own city – yes, in Ann Arbor, famous for its liberalism.

The group in question, Deir Yassin Remembered, was listed in April 2016 by one of America’s leading civil rights organizations on a national register of Active Hate Groups.

The Southern Poverty Law Center, based in Montgomery, Alabama, publishes an annual list of American “hate groups” that malign people on the basis of race, sexual orientation, or religion. The SPLC first became famous for bankrupting and destroying in court the United Klans of America, whose members had lynched an African-American teenager and bombed an African-American church, killing four little girls.

This year for the first time Ann Arbor’s own Deir Yassin Remembered made the SPLC list. Why? What evidence supports this characterization? Whom do they target?

Although no doubt the beliefs of individual supporters vary, the leaders of DYR are tied to activists who vilify Jews in particular, but also gays, lesbians, and black people. These, of course, were the classic targets of the Nazis, and the SPLC’s Senior Fellow Mark Potok – after a year’s research – has explicitly described DYR as defenders of Hitler’s “Germany and National Socialism,” that is to say, Nazism.

Consider these all-purpose, equal opportunity obsessions:

Hatred of Jews

DYR leaders campaigned for the release from prison and the rehabilitation of Ernst Zundel, an ani-Semite jailed in his native Germany for “inciting racial hatred.”

During his trial, Zundel’s lawyer signed court motions with the words “Heil Hitler.” Zundel co-authored a book “The Hitler We Loved and Why,” published by White Power Publications, which explained “It was never Hitler’s Germany. It shall always be Germany’s Hitler….Today, [Hitler’s] spirit soars beyond the shores of the White Man’s home in Europe. Wherever we are, he is with us. WE LOVE YOU, ADOLF HITLER.”

To express their admiration for Zundel, Henry Herskovitz, who is a member of the Board of Advisors and Directors of DYR, together with Daniel McGowan, Executive Director of DYR, visited Zundel in Mannheim Prison in Germany. In 2014, Herskovitz also posted a picture of himself greeting Holocaust survivors at a memorial ceremony organized for their murdered families with a sign reading “Free Ernst Zundel.”

Herskovitz appears at the Ann Arbor City Council to explain why the Holocaust is a fraud. He, McGowan, and another DYR Director Paul Eisen founded an organization “Jews for Justice for Germans,” which calls for an end to German reparations to Jews, Jewish reparations to Germany to atone for the suffering inflicted on that country by lying about the Holocaust, and the repeal of all Holocaust denial laws. Unsurprisingly, Holocaust denial is a recurrent, indeed central, theme on the DYR website, and the SPLC has explicitly identified DYR as Holocaust deniers.

Every Saturday for 13 years DYR has picketed a synagogue in Ann Arbor. In person outside the synagogue and on their website, DYR activists promote an array of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories: Jews built gas ovens in the death camps after World War Two to frame the Germans. Jews created and now control ISIS. Jews destroyed the Twin Trade Towers in New York City on 9/11.

Jews have organized all the chief terrorist attacks in Europe and America. According to a report in the Washtenaw Jewish News, while standing outside Beth Israel in 2012 a leader of the weekly picket summarized his views in these exact words: “I hate Jews. Whatever happened to them in World War II, they brought on themselves. They deserved everything they got.”

Hatred of Gays

In Nazi ideology, anti-Semitism was tied to hatred of gays. In a recent letter to the Washtenaw Jewish News, Herskovitz identified Larry Brayboy of Ann Arbor as “a close friend” of the synagogue picketers and proposed a debate between Brayboy and a local Jew so that Brayboy could “prove” there was no such event as the Holocaust. Who is Brayboy? He is a homophobe who regularly sends unsolicited mass e-mails to prominent figures in Michigan and the US with such lovely messages as that of April 14, 2017: “Exposing Bernie Sanders Neocon Dick Sucking Jew Faggot.”

DYR Director Paul Eisen appeared on the radio show of David Duke, the Louisiana anti-Semite, white supremacist, and former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Said Eisen to Duke on the air, “I never heard you, David, say anything that I didn’t think was true.” One can only conclude that Eisen accepts Duke’s oft-stated view, expressed for example on DavidDuke.com on Aug. 22, 2013, that Jews have masterminded the campaign to undermine Western morality by promoting homosexuality in the courts, forcing homosexuals into the Boy Scouts, spreading pornography, and above all, by legalizing gay marriage.

Duke described Tel Aviv as “one of the world’s most gay-friendly cities.” He concluded his on-line posting with twelve pictures of what he called “particularly repulsive specimens” of Jewish gays and lesbians.

Since DYR denies that the Holocaust occurred, they have no reason to accept that gays were victims of the Holocaust. The truth is that 100,000 gay men were arrested in Nazi Germany, an unknown number were castrated to “cure their sickness,” and up to 15,000 were sent to concentration camps, where a great many were murdered.

Hatred of Blacks

David Duke, whose worldview, we just saw, DYR Director Paul Eisen endorsed, is arguably American’s best known white supremacist. Among the former KKK Imperial Wizard’s more notable quotes is the following comment to The Sun newspaper of Wichita, Kansas: “White people don’t need a law against rape, but if you fill this room up with your normal black bucks, you would, because niggers are basically primitive animals.”

And consider these sweet recent e-mail postings by Larry Brayboy, whom Henry Herskovitz identified as the “close friend” of synagogue picketers and the man whom DYR wants to represent its views in public debate.

Here is how Brayboy describes his political foes:

“Dem Howard Dean ANOTHER JEW NIGGER…” (April 11, 2017)

“HEY OBAMA FUCK YOUR DAUGHTERS IN THE ASS YOU SLIMY FUCKING NIGGER WAR CRIMINAL” (April 17, 2017)

“DIRTY FUCKING CRACK WHORE MICHELLE DIRTY FUCKING WAR CRIMINAL FUCKING NIGGER” (April 17, 2017)

“Multiple examples of JEW NIGGER MEDIA FUCKING your Mothers in the Ass” (April 24, 2017)

When asked recently by Michigan Radio-WUOM for his reaction to the SPLC’s listing of DYR as a hate-group, Herskovitz sought to frame the issue as one of free speech. “I feel very fortunate to live in America, where free speech is protected. If I were in Germany or France, I’d be in jail just for speaking my mind. That’s not right to me.”

His response is doubly ironic. First, he uses free speech to defend the policies of Nazi Germany, whose practices were the antithesis of free speech. If you regard liberal values as sacred, you don’t endorse a regime which posed the 20th century’s most fundamental threat to those same values. Second, no one, certainly not the SPLC, has ever questioned DYR’s Fist Amendment rights.

The issue is not free speech, but the purposes to which speech is directed. The SPLC – seconded over the years by Ann Arbor clergy of all faiths, the Ann Arbor Mayor and City council, and the Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice – decries efforts by DYR and allied individuals to instill hatred, to malign entire categories of people on the basis of religious, racial, or sexual identity.

DYR’s new slogan, reminiscent of a certain presidential campaign, is “America First. Not Israel.” It’s hard to imagine a group more hostile than DYR to the principles of inclusion and tolerance basic to American democracy.

The (Chosen) People vs. Ernst Zundel – Taki’s Magazine

Ernst Zundel In the forty-year battle between Ernst Zundel and the Jews, I think we can finally declare a winner. As I wrote in my book, in a section titled Blame Canada, The Zundel team was able to grill Holocaust historian Raul Hilberg, who was forced to admit, under cross-examination, that there had never been a plan for what he called the policy of the extermination of the Jews. The short version is, Homeland Security denied the request, stating: A foreign conviction can be the basis for a finding of inadmissibility only where the conviction is for conduct which is deemed criminal by United States standards. Volokh points out what should be obvious (but, of course, isnt) to any rational American: But as best I can tell from press accounts, Zundels speech that formed the basis of his German conviction would not have been deemed criminal by United States standards.

Sean Kilpatrick / Postmedia When he was liberated from Dachau concentration camp on April 29, 1945 his 20th birthday David Shentow weighed just 76 pounds, but carried more memories than most men could bear. David Shentow, photographed in 2010 on the eve of his 85th birthday, with wife Rose. Bruno Schlumberger / Ottawa Debbie Weiss, chair of the Holocaust Committee for the Jewish Federation of Ottawa, said Shentow was a powerful witness because his testimony was so forthright, clear and honest. Bruno Schlumberger / Ottawa On May 10, 1940, when the Germans launched co-ordinated attacks on Belgium, Holland and France, he packed his young family into a car and fled toward the French border, but the Nazis got there first. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Rose, their two children, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. aduffy@postmedia.com

Wetbacks in Reverse? Ernst Zundel banned forever from Land …

By Dr. Ingrid R. Zundel on April 29, 2017 “Give us your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” [ Note: After 14 years of legal wrangling at the cost of millions of dollars to both sides, the US government has ruled on discretionary grounds by an unelected bureaucrat named Ron Rosenberg, Chief, Administrative Appeals Office of the US Department of Homeland Security, that Ernst Zndel is banned from joining his family in the US. According to this ruling, a dissident contesting a disputed historical claim such as the Auschwitz gassing is now a criminal of moral turpitude. Can it get any more Kafkaesque? More will be said about this latest Zundel development at a later time. For now, here is the latest installment of the ever-expanding Global Zundel-Saga Ingrid Zundel ] * Ernst Zndel, in his own words: Ernst and Ingrid Zundel: Wetbacks in Reverse? The day that Ernst Zundel was released from his 7-year prison term, supporters greeted him (file photo) I had been given a social security number, a health check, two FBI checks that cleared me of any wrong-doing, inoculations, a work permit, a travel permit the works! Ernst at home in Tennessee Those uniformed, battle-hardened men seemed visibly moved. Thank you to some of the dedicated people who protect our country (file photo) Soon additional, ever-so-friendly American guards came with three bottles of water, some potato chips and a hearty ham sandwich. * For a background summary of Ernst Zundels political outreach, please read Mark Webers excellent essay as published by the Institute for Historical Review: http://www.revisionists.com/revisionists/zundel.html *

Ernst at home in Tennessee Those uniformed, battle-hardened men seemed visibly moved. Thank you to some of the dedicated people who protect our country (file photo) Soon additional, ever-so-friendly American guards came with three bottles of water, some potato chips and a hearty ham sandwich. * For a background summary of Ernst Zundels political outreach, please read Mark Webers excellent essay as published by the Institute for Historical Review: http://www.revisionists.com/revisionists/zundel.html

An All-Purpose Hate Group BY VICTOR LIEBERMAN Originally printed 5/5/2017 (Issue 2518 – Between The Lines News) Everyone knows that Donald Trump’s election has given new life to racist and homophobic groups. Consider these all-purpose, equal opportunity obsessions: Hatred of Jews DYR leaders campaigned for the release from prison and the rehabilitation of Ernst Zundel, an ani-Semite jailed in his native Germany for “inciting racial hatred.” During his trial, Zundel’s lawyer signed court motions with the words “Heil Hitler.” Zundel co-authored a book “The Hitler We Loved and Why,” published by White Power Publications, which explained “It was never Hitler’s Germany. It shall always be Germany’s Hitler….Today, [Hitler’s] spirit soars beyond the shores of the White Man’s home in Europe. Wherever we are, he is with us. WE LOVE YOU, ADOLF HITLER.” To express their admiration for Zundel, Henry Herskovitz, who is a member of the Board of Advisors and Directors of DYR, together with Daniel McGowan, Executive Director of DYR, visited Zundel in Mannheim Prison in Germany. In 2014, Herskovitz also posted a picture of himself greeting Holocaust survivors at a memorial ceremony organized for their murdered families with a sign reading “Free Ernst Zundel.” Herskovitz appears at the Ann Arbor City Council to explain why the Holocaust is a fraud. They deserved everything they got.” Hatred of Gays In Nazi ideology, anti-Semitism was tied to hatred of gays. He is a homophobe who regularly sends unsolicited mass e-mails to prominent figures in Michigan and the US with such lovely messages as that of April 14, 2017: “Exposing Bernie Sanders Neocon Dick Sucking Jew Faggot.” DYR Director Paul Eisen appeared on the radio show of David Duke, the Louisiana anti-Semite, white supremacist, and former Imperial Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan. Hatred of Blacks David Duke, whose worldview, we just saw, DYR Director Paul Eisen endorsed, is arguably American’s best known white supremacist. Among the former KKK Imperial Wizard’s more notable quotes is the following comment to The Sun newspaper of Wichita, Kansas: “White people don’t need a law against rape, but if you fill this room up with your normal black bucks, you would, because niggers are basically primitive animals.” And consider these sweet recent e-mail postings by Larry Brayboy, whom Henry Herskovitz identified as the “close friend” of synagogue picketers and the man whom DYR wants to represent its views in public debate. Here is how Brayboy describes his political foes: “Dem Howard Dean ANOTHER JEW NIGGER…” (April 11, 2017) “HEY OBAMA FUCK YOUR DAUGHTERS IN THE ASS YOU SLIMY FUCKING NIGGER WAR CRIMINAL” (April 17, 2017) “DIRTY FUCKING CRACK WHORE MICHELLE DIRTY FUCKING WAR CRIMINAL FUCKING NIGGER” (April 17, 2017) “Multiple examples of JEW NIGGER MEDIA FUCKING your Mothers in the Ass” (April 24, 2017) When asked recently by Michigan Radio-WUOM for his reaction to the SPLC’s listing of DYR as a hate-group, Herskovitz sought to frame the issue as one of free speech. “I feel very fortunate to live in America, where free speech is protected. If I were in Germany or France, I’d be in jail just for speaking my mind. That’s not right to me.” His response is doubly ironic.
