JNS.org Former American-Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard is preparing to petition the US Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit in New York against the restrictions of his parole, and is scheduled to return to court May 17 for a hearing on the issue.

After serving a 30-year sentence on charges of espionage, the former US avy analyst was released from prison in November 2015 and has since been barred, under his parole conditions, from leaving his New York home between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Pollards parole conditions also forbid him from freely using the internet and speaking with the media. He is obliged to wear a GPS monitoring apparatus at all times and cannot leave the US.

Pollards lawyer Eliot Lauer said the conditions of his clients parole are harsh, politically motivated and arbitrarily imposed, arguing they prevent Pollard from working and rehabilitating properly.

If indeed there has been a sea change toward Israel and the American Jewish community with the advent of the Trump administration, then it will be reflected in the ability of the 2nd Circuit to respond freely and honestly to the facts and the circumstances of the case, Lauer added. Longtime Austin Prep boys’ hockey coach Lou Finocchiaro of Saugus retires – Wicked Local Saugus

After 14 years at the helm of Austin Preparatory School boys hockey team, coach Lou Finocchiaro has decided to step down, according to an Austin Prep press release on May 11.

“I have thought long and hard about this,” Finocchiaro told his players prior to Thursdays announcement. “But its the right time. Its very hard for me personally. I love coaching and I love hockey it was a very difficult decision.”

During his tenure, Finocchiaro led the Cougars to nearly 200 victories and six Catholic Central League championships, while also watching many of his players become All-Scholastics. The team received almost annual invites to the Super Eight elite hockey tournament.

The Saugus native, who was the architect of Saugus High Schools first state hockey championship back in 1999, is also the longest-serving boys hockey coach at the co-educational Reading parochial school.

In 2016, Finocchiaro was inducted into the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

During last weeks announcement, he thanked the school, assistant coaches, team managers, athletic directors, trainers, headmasters, alumni and players for 14 great years.

Despite his many successes on the ice, he said his greatest achievements are the close relationships he established with his players. He receives wedding invitations from some past players, and maintains friendships with many of them.

“The relationships we developed were about a lot more than just hockey,” Finocchiaro said. “I believe I gave all I had, and did it right. Its been a great journey, and I have no regrets.”

Headmaster James Hickey, Ph.D., and Director of Athletics Jonathan Pollard thanked Finocchiaro for his dedication and years of service to the school.

“The impact coach Finocchiaro has had on our hockey program and the generations of student-athletes he has coached is simply immeasurable,” Pollard said. “Though we are saddened to see the end of an era, we know coach Finocchiaro has left our hockey program in a position to maintain its standing as one of the top Division 1 programs in the state. Though we are incredibly proud of the many wins, CCL championships and establishing a consistent presence in the Super 8, we are most thankful for the example coach Finocchiaro has set for our young men. He has undoubtedly led by example in instilling qualities like humility, sportsmanship, work ethic, and loyalty. These qualities are what ensure not only our student-athletes success in the game of hockey, but more importantly the game of life.”

Finocchiaros own son, Louis, is a current Prep senior, who played varsity hockey for his dad. He graduates next week.

Lous daughter, Olivia, plays hockey at Tabor Academy, and the coach lives with his children and wife, Dawn, in Saugus.

BURYS famous Robbie the Bobby mascot might have reached the end of his beat!

The Shakers announced on Wednesday the beloved character, who has prowled the touchline at Gigg Lane for the last two decades, was now under consideration.

Fans have been invited to give their views online as to whether Robbie should be redesigned or sent to the big house.

Supporter services manager Ben Miles explained: Our mascot is something that has been underused for a number of seasons now, and will play a much bigger part in some of our plans for next season and beyond. The very least we need to do is re-design the suit, as the current one is in a state of disrepair.

Couple that with the reputation that Robbie has from a chequered past, it makes sense to carry out an assessment of the options available to us. Whilst we do have our own ideas, we want to hear from the fans. Their opinions are very important to us and they may also come up with a brilliant idea that we havent thought about.

Robbie was introduced in 1997 after promotion to division now known as the Championship and named after local politician Sir Robert Peel former Prime Minister and founder of the modern Police force.

The cartoonish policeman was once one of the most recognisable mascots in the Football League, especially after his antics caught the national headlines in 2001.

Lifelong supporter and amateur boxer Jonathan Pollard, the man who occupied the suit at the time, was sent off three times by referees during the course of the season leading to a review of mascot behaviour in the league.

He got in hot water for mooning at Stoke City supporters, fighting with Peterborough Uniteds rabbit mascot and ripping off his ears and also had to be restrained by stewards after brawling with Cardiff Citys Bartley Bluebird.

Removing Active Content from existing eBay listings – Tamebay

This post is by Jonathan Pollard CEO & Co-founder of Codisto a provider of Amazon & eBay integration and listings tools. Marketplace Connect is a lightweight extension offering full integration for Magento, WooCommerce & Shopify. Xpress Lister is a browser based tool offering bulk edit of existing listings and bulk creation of new listings from spreadsheets.

eBays new Active Content rules for listings from June 2017 has been well reported. However, reports have generally focused on what Active Content is and recommendations of what to do for new future listings. Which leaves some important questions unanswered:

What about the thousands of sellers and millions of existing eBay listings containing Active Content? How do sellers remove Active Content from existing listings to enable sales history to be retained?

Personalised eBay listing templates are a good thing for sellers. They allow sellers to stand out from the crowd and promote their brand. However, sellers have often created different forms of their templates over time leading to listings with inconsistent templates that all contain Active Content. Quite often we see the HTML contained in listings varying from product to product depending on when the products were first listed, sometimes stretching back several years.

The heart of the Active Content problem for existing listings is eBays ugly architecture. To remove Active Content, the eBay template must be updated. The best way to architect a software solution that allows the updating of templates is to have separate template and product description elements (that is how we built Xpress Lister because it allows bulk updating of either templates and/or descriptions).

However, eBays architecture is such that the ebay description is a joint blob, containing BOTH the written product description AND the template HTML (used to make the listing look good). This means the HTML is intertwined with the written product description and any Active Content is intertwined in the HTML a messy blob.

For merchants to remove/replace active content from existing listings they must either:

1) Identify and replace the offending active content code intertwined in the HTML of the ebay description possibly on many different templates across many products. This involves using the Sell Your Item flow, clicking Revise listing, scrolling to Description, switching out of wyswig editor into html mode, copying that and pasting to an separate editor and picking through the HTML line by line! Moreover, it has to be done listing by listing! Very time consuming and a real struggle for many merchants; or

2) Wipe the slate clean by removing the old templates and applying new active content compliant template to every listing. However, there are two significant challenges here to this approach. Namely:

Applying the new template to every listing:

eBay doesnt provide sellers with a suitable tool (Turbo Lister doesnt include any template functionality). 3rd party template design services will provide Active Content compliant designs but they offer no means of distributing to the listings other than copy/paste listing by listing. Furthermore, even if merchants are prepared to apply the new code listing by listing on eBay by copy/pasting on each individual listing, once its deployed the template code is dumb or orphaned there is no way to make changes to the template later and have it automatically flow to every listing e.g. updating a logo or terms of sale its a case of going listing by listing AGAIN!

Having clean product descriptions to apply a template to:

Unless merchants have written product descriptions readily available elsewhere, the product description is only available on the existing eBay listings and is intertwined with the template HTML. This means sellers have to pick through the ebay description blob one by one to retrieve their written product descriptions.

Due to the reasons explained above, removing Active Content from existing listings to retain sales history is going to require a little effort. If you have written product descriptions available on a spreadsheet it will save you some time as some 3rd party listing tools offer the ability to import and bulk update your existing listings with clean descriptions and add an Active Content compliant template separately. But its also possible to clean Active Content if your descriptions only exist on eBay listings and you cant import from another source.

Michael Chappo, the stage manager of the Mouse River Players, believes theatregoers will share hardy laughs as they witness or relive the comedic acts performed throughout the musical.

One of the things that all humans struggle with are relationships, Chappo said. Sometimes, when we come into a relationship, we hold unrealistic expectations, especially in a love relationship. So, I think its really charming and funny to explore the trials, the drama and the awkwardness.

Featuring a cast of eight performers, audiences will watch young love bud into a mid-life crisis before blooming into a flourishing romance.

Making her Mouse River Players debut is director Margaret R. Weinert-Lishner.

Described by Chappo as fresh, exciting and innovative, Weinert-Lishner expressed great excitement about the creative energy displayed by her cast.

Every couple of minutes, different characters are singing different songs, Weinert-Lishner said. Its incredibly demanding for the cast and I am so proud of all the work theyve been doing.

Feedback after job interview would create better candidates – Chicago Tribune

Have you ever applied for a job you thought you were perfect for and then heard nothing? Have you ever gone on a job interview, thought you nailed it and got total radio silence?

The answer to both of those questions is probably yes. You’re left wondering what you did wrong and what you could do better next time, but no one will tell you. In fact, even if you ask directly for feedback, you probably won’t get any.

To prove that no good deed goes unpunished, attorney Jonathan Pollard went out of his way to give feedback to an applicant and got a terrible Glassdoor review in response.

The candidate wrote: Jonathan Pollard is one of the rudest and unprofessional (sic) hiring managers I have ever encountered in my job-seeking experience. After applying for the job, he sent me a one-paragraph critique of my writing samples, instead of simply telling me that my experience is not the right fit for his firm. A direct quote from his email to me: My English and history professors at Cornell would have ripped this to shreds (as I just did).’ This is an incredibly inappropriate way to speak to a job seeker and is probably a good indicator of his management style. I suggest that the company outsource its’ (sic) hiring needs to a recruiter who is familiar with the hiring process and the decorum that comes with the hiring process. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable.

What this candidate didn’t realize is that Pollard did her a huge favor. He could have just hit delete on her resume with a generic rejection letter. But instead of doing what she wanted, he did what she needed.

Pollard detailed his experience in a LinkedIn Pulse article in which he described what happened after he rejected her: Then I wrote this person back. And the first words out of my mouth were: Thank you for your application. Congratulations on finishing school. I appreciate your enthusiasm and professionalism, but based on the writing samples you provided, I do not believe you are a polished enough writer to work in my organization.’ I then gave her some general guidance on her writing; some overarching problems I see; some basic things she needs to change. And I did indeed tell her that my English and history professors at Cornell would have ripped her writing to shreds. And done exactly what I had done in the sample I edited.

I did not have to write this young person back. I could have just ignored her and thrown her application in the trash. But I wrote her back to give her some specific guidance on how to be a better writer. I was trying to help her! And as a result, I apparently infringed on her safe space.

Now, if she’d taken his advice, her writing would be much better for the next job that required a writing sample. Instead, she pitched a fit. (Although, in all fairness, we don’t know if she sat down after she wrote her scathing review of him on Glassdoor and edited her writing samples per his instructions.)

Wouldn’t it be great if you got solid feedback after failed job applications, if you knew why you were rejected and what you could do to make yourself a stronger applicant? If you’re a hiring manager, think about the polished candidates you’d start seeing polished because your competitors had helped these people along the way.

Of course, you won’t see this on a large scale for several reasons. One is simply time. Giving this type of feedback is time-consuming, and in a world where recruiters don’t even bother to get back to you after you’ve interviewed, it’s absurd to think this would be a regular thing.

The other reason you won’t see this happening is fear of lawsuits. Yep. If you just silently reject a candidate, the candidate won’t know why and will just assume there was someone more qualified. But once you tell the candidate why you rejected him, if you end up hiring someone with a similar deficit and that person happens to be a different race, gender, etc., you could face a lawsuit.

Of course, some feedback is ridiculous, as in the case of the recruiter who rejects people based on how scuffed their shoes are. But if you got that kind of feedback (We decided not to move forward with you because your shoes were not polished to our liking), then you could breathe a sigh of relief because you just dodged a bullet.

While I would love to see useful feedback in job applications, it’s likely not going to happen. But I can certainly dream.

He got in hot water for mooning at Stoke City supporters, fighting with Peterborough Uniteds rabbit mascot and ripping off his ears and also had to be restrained by stewards after brawling with Cardiff Citys Bartley Bluebird. Removing Active Content from existing eBay listings – Tamebay

This post is by Jonathan Pollard CEO & Co-founder of Codisto a provider of Amazon & eBay integration and listings tools. Marketplace Connect is a lightweight extension offering full integration for Magento, WooCommerce & Shopify. Xpress Lister is a browser based tool offering bulk edit of existing listings and bulk creation of new listings from spreadsheets. eBays new Active Content rules for listings from June 2017 has been well reported. However, reports have generally focused on what Active Content is and recommendations of what to do for new future listings. Which leaves some important questions unanswered: What about the thousands of sellers and millions of existing eBay listings containing Active Content? How do sellers remove Active Content from existing listings to enable sales history to be retained? Personalised eBay listing templates are a good thing for sellers. They allow sellers to stand out from the crowd and promote their brand. However, sellers have often created different forms of their templates over time leading to listings with inconsistent templates that all contain Active Content. Quite often we see the HTML contained in listings varying from product to product depending on when the products were first listed, sometimes stretching back several years. The heart of the Active Content problem for existing listings is eBays ugly architecture. To remove Active Content, the eBay template must be updated. The best way to architect a software solution that allows the updating of templates is to have separate template and product description elements (that is how we built Xpress Lister because it allows bulk updating of either templates and/or descriptions). However, eBays architecture is such that the ebay description is a joint blob, containing BOTH the written product description AND the template HTML (used to make the listing look good). This means the HTML is intertwined with the written product description and any Active Content is intertwined in the HTML a messy blob. For merchants to remove/replace active content from existing listings they must either: 1) Identify and replace the offending active content code intertwined in the HTML of the ebay description possibly on many different templates across many products. This involves using the Sell Your Item flow, clicking Revise listing, scrolling to Description, switching out of wyswig editor into html mode, copying that and pasting to an separate editor and picking through the HTML line by line! Moreover, it has to be done listing by listing! Very time consuming and a real struggle for many merchants; or 2) Wipe the slate clean by removing the old templates and applying new active content compliant template to every listing. However, there are two significant challenges here to this approach. Namely: Applying the new template to every listing: eBay doesnt provide sellers with a suitable tool (Turbo Lister doesnt include any template functionality). 3rd party template design services will provide Active Content compliant designs but they offer no means of distributing to the listings other than copy/paste listing by listing. Furthermore, even if merchants are prepared to apply the new code listing by listing on eBay by copy/pasting on each individual listing, once its deployed the template code is dumb or orphaned there is no way to make changes to the template later and have it automatically flow to every listing e.g. updating a logo or terms of sale its a case of going listing by listing AGAIN! Having clean product descriptions to apply a template to: Unless merchants have written product descriptions readily available elsewhere, the product description is only available on the existing eBay listings and is intertwined with the template HTML. This means sellers have to pick through the ebay description blob one by one to retrieve their written product descriptions. Due to the reasons explained above, removing Active Content from existing listings to retain sales history is going to require a little effort. If you have written product descriptions available on a spreadsheet it will save you some time as some 3rd party listing tools offer the ability to import and bulk update your existing listings with clean descriptions and add an Active Content compliant template separately. But its also possible to clean Active Content if your descriptions only exist on eBay listings and you cant import from another source. One of the things that all humans struggle with are relationships, Chappo said. Sometimes, when we come into a relationship, we hold unrealistic expectations, especially in a love relationship. Feedback after job interview would create better candidates – Chicago Tribune

Have you ever applied for a job you thought you were perfect for and then heard nothing? Have you ever gone on a job interview, thought you nailed it and got total radio silence? The answer to both of those questions is probably yes. You’re left wondering what you did wrong and what you could do better next time, but no one will tell you. In fact, even if you ask directly for feedback, you probably won’t get any. To prove that no good deed goes unpunished, attorney Jonathan Pollard went out of his way to give feedback to an applicant and got a terrible Glassdoor review in response. The candidate wrote: Jonathan Pollard is one of the rudest and unprofessional (sic) hiring managers I have ever encountered in my job-seeking experience. After applying for the job, he sent me a one-paragraph critique of my writing samples, instead of simply telling me that my experience is not the right fit for his firm. A direct quote from his email to me: My English and history professors at Cornell would have ripped this to shreds (as I just did).’ This is an incredibly inappropriate way to speak to a job seeker and is probably a good indicator of his management style. I suggest that the company outsource its’ (sic) hiring needs to a recruiter who is familiar with the hiring process and the decorum that comes with the hiring process. This type of behavior is completely unacceptable. What this candidate didn’t realize is that Pollard did her a huge favor. He could have just hit delete on her resume with a generic rejection letter. But instead of doing what she wanted, he did what she needed. Pollard detailed his experience in a LinkedIn Pulse article in which he described what happened after he rejected her: Then I wrote this person back. And the first words out of my mouth were: Thank you for your application. Congratulations on finishing school. I appreciate your enthusiasm and professionalism, but based on the writing samples you provided, I do not believe you are a polished enough writer to work in my organization.’ I then gave her some general guidance on her writing; some overarching problems I see; some basic things she needs to change. And I did indeed tell her that my English and history professors at Cornell would have ripped her writing to shreds. And done exactly what I had done in the sample I edited. I did not have to write this young person back. I could have just ignored her and thrown her application in the trash. But I wrote her back to give her some specific guidance on how to be a better writer. I was trying to help her! And as a result, I apparently infringed on her safe space. Now, if she’d taken his advice, her writing would be much better for the next job that required a writing sample. Instead, she pitched a fit. (Although, in all fairness, we don’t know if she sat down after she wrote her scathing review of him on Glassdoor and edited her writing samples per his instructions.) Wouldn’t it be great if you got solid feedback after failed job applications, if you knew why you were rejected and what you could do to make yourself a stronger applicant? If you’re a hiring manager, think about the polished candidates you’d start seeing polished because your competitors had helped these people along the way. Of course, you won’t see this on a large scale for several reasons. One is simply time. Giving this type of feedback is time-consuming, and in a world where recruiters don’t even bother to get back to you after you’ve interviewed, it’s absurd to think this would be a regular thing. The other reason you won’t see this happening is fear of lawsuits. Yep. If you just silently reject a candidate, the candidate won’t know why and will just assume there was someone more qualified. But once you tell the candidate why you rejected him, if you end up hiring someone with a similar deficit and that person happens to be a different race, gender, etc., you could face a lawsuit. Of course, some feedback is ridiculous, as in the case of the recruiter who rejects people based on how scuffed their shoes are. But if you got that kind of feedback (We decided not to move forward with you because your shoes were not polished to our liking), then you could breathe a sigh of relief because you just dodged a bullet. While I would love to see useful feedback in job applications, it’s likely not going to happen. But I can certainly dream. Suzanne Lucas spent 10 years in corporate human resources.

Under the 'fair use' rule of copyright law, an author may make limited use of another author's work without asking permission. Fair use is based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism.
