I.

Excerpts from Gestalt und Leben, Reichsleiter Dr. Alfred Rosenbergs Address, delivered on April 27, 1938, inaugurating the University of Halles Summer Semester:

It is not my intention to make use of this occasion to analyze the philosophy of Ludwig Klages. I do not intend to refute Klages, as one might expect, but to examine his concept of life as it is in itself, as well as in the context of our Germanic life.

Nevertheless, there must be no confusion here, for the National Socialist Movement does not “endorse” the philosophy of Ludwig Klages, and it most emphatically does not “stand by his side”; on the contrary, what is at issue here is our need for a straight answer to a crucial question: now that the Reich has recovered from the critical disease that almost destroyed it, are Klages and his circle of disciples willing to reconcile themselves to this reborn German way of life?

As I have indicated a moment ago, I have no interest in utilizing this forum as an opportunity to indulge in a bit of carping criticism, for I must resist the temptation to participate in petty polemical disputes. Instead, I will avail myself of this opportunity to cite a series of pronouncements that Klages himself has made in his various publications, and to confront them with pronouncements that have been formulated by the official spokesmen of the National Socialist Movement in the course of almost twenty years of struggle, during which our movement ceaselessly re-evaluated its most fundamental principles.

In his entire career Klages has formulated but one basic thought, and it would be improper for me to seek to trivialize this central principle that has, in effect, determined the whole course of his speculative life. On the contrary, the philosophy of Ludwig Klages stands or falls solely on the basis of the validity of the crucial postulate to which I allude, and which can be summarized as follows: the original sin of mankind transpired at the moment when the ecstatic, image-laden, and rhythmically pulsating life that man enjoyed during the primordial [“Pelasgian”] phase of existence was invaded by “spirit” (Geist), an entity whose essence is expressed in such phenomena as the will-to-power, purposeful activity, and the dictatorship of reason. All of the manifold horrors that comprise “World History” are, in the view of Klages, the ineluctable results of this invasion. In a characteristic utterance drawn from one of his major works, he explicitly states that the history of mankind clearly reveals the fact that it is in man, and only in man, that there occurs a “battle to the knife” between the power of universal love and a force that erupts into the sphere of life from outside the spatio-temporal continuum. This invader is spirit, the force that seeks to sever the poles of life in order to destroy life by tearing the soul from the body and the body from the soul.

In addition, Klages interprets the duality of our nature as the result of the destructive effects of critical consciousness and purposeful will upon mans living substance. From this inner turmoil arises the ego or self, viz., the person. These are merely the masks that now govern our lives, which are conducted solely under the demands of thought and will. It is only through the ego that we can still hear the voice of the cosmos from which we have been expelled. Our masks have at last grown into our very flesh, to which they cling more tenaciously with every passing century. Thus, after a pre-history guided by the soul, Klages tells us, follows the history that is ruled by spirit; finally, in “post-history” man will become the mask itself, the hollow simulacrum of a living being.

After all the filth and humiliation that it has had to endure, life comes to its dreadful end at the moment when the triumphant mask celebrates the conversion of once-living man into the “mock-man,” the Golem.

Thus speaks Klages, our own Cassandra, and youll doubtless recall that it was the unfortunate destiny of Cassandra to be dismissed as an utter lunatic by those whose blindness to the actual state of affairs was so complete that they ignored her (accurate) prophecies, thereby assuring the consummation of the awful doom that awaited them. We might even see in this allusion to Cassandra a crystallization of Klagess whole attitude to life. In truth, he never seems to tire of proclaiming such dire prophecies in the most strident accents.

In one utterance, he informs us that spirit is, in fact, the parasitic logos. In his later works he excoriates the spirit as a void without revelations, a nothingness whose only purpose is the ultimate annihilation of the substance of life. Briefly expressed, Klages insists that life and spirit (which in this philosophers thought comprises reason, understanding, and will) constitute the irreducibly antagonistic principles of existence. In this proposition, Klages effectively epitomizes the conclusion to which his examination of the phenomena of life as well his scrutiny of history have inexorably led him, and, we must admit, he defends this unique position with an incomparable eloquence and with a truly massive scholarship.

Contemporary realities, however, have confounded the certainties of this oracle, for the Germanic powers of resistance that have recently been manifested were far greater than could ever have been imagined by admirers of the metaphysical dirges of this prophet of doom. At last the Faustian spirit shouted his defiant: “Alone, I will!” And it was precisely in the time of our most dreadful decline that there began not only Germanys political rebirth, but the rebirth of our spirit and soul as well.

We are particularly troubled by the fact that Klages reserves his most bitter diatribes for the Hellenic world, to which he imputes the lions share of responsibility for the entry into history of the so-called spirit. Klages actually prefers an earlier and, in his view, more vital historical phase, to which he has given the name “the Pelasgian Age.” He has delved deeply into the pre-historic cultures of the eastern Mediterranean (kleinasiatischen Vlkerschaft), and he finds the ecstasies, mother-goddesses, and matriarchies that are so rampant in that cultural sphere, to be admirable, and even exemplary, expressions of Dionysian vitality. Thus, it is only logically consistent that Klages should break a lance against Nordic Hellas, a procedure that appears to me to be a most dangerous undertaking, since we feel that in adopting this approach Klages seems far less likely to discover the well-springs of a primordial vitality than to find himself proceeding swiftly down the road to madness.

As it happens, we know today that Classical Greece was definitely not an evolutionary cultural development that was the creative achievement of the genetic descendants of “Pelasgian” and hither-Asiatic types; the Greeks of the great period, in truth, constituted the representatives of a new race, one that would eventually force those self-same eastern Mediterranean peoples to submit to their military yoke, just as they would in the course of time replace the spiritual attitudes of the Levantines with their own ethical values and sthetic ideals.

Hellas formed a unique protest of renewed life against the ecstasies, chthonic cults, and gloomy practices of an alien realm, and Apollo is the god whose name embodies for us the transformed Greek world that took its place. The “Pelasgian” world, on the other hand, represents the sinking back into a formless confusion characterized by rampant race chaos and disorder of soul. We most emphatically refuse to recognize the value of such dismal conditions.

To what extent Klages oversteps the bounds of an authentic philosophical-historical empiricism can be demonstrated in his denial of the existential powers of race (which are the concrete powers of life). An exceptionally blatant manifestation of this blindness occurs in his philosophizing on the so-called “telluric” turn. His statements here clearly indicate that Klages, who has certainly had every opportunity to familiarize himself with the findings of racial science during the last few decades, has utterly ignored these forces of the blood, believing them to be completely irrelevant to his metaphysical speculations.

Likewise, Klages has encouraged certain petty scribblers among his disciples to vilify Immanuel Kant, this greatest of all thinkers. [One of them, Werner Deubel,] has published some of the most demented drivel that has ever been concocted by a sectarians brain; these documents are the most impudent that have come to my attention in many years, and, indeed, these writings seem as if they had been devised as an attack upon the very foundations of our National Socialist World-View!

These disciples of Klages refer to themselves as the “biocentric” school, and they regards it as their sacred mission to do battle with the so-called “mechanistic” philosophy; nevertheless, the far greater danger that I believe confronts us today is, rather, the biocentric philosophy itself, which must not be permitted to infect with its false teachings the scientific doctrines espoused by the National Socialist Movement.

Precisely how life and the lifeless are related to each other is not a matter than can be settled by dogmatic proclamations. The two most prominent methods, howeverthe first, to grasp life by means of life (through observation of inner and outer experience), and, the second, to study the cosmos by means of mechanistic and mathematical methodstogether comprise the indivisible essence of Germanic scientific research.

In the final analysis, spirit is not, as Klages believes, a power from outside the spatio-temporal continuum that has irrupted into an idyllic paradise. On the contrary, spirit is an integral element of our national life.

And we cannot agree with Klages when he simply equates the God Jahweh of the Old Testament with the “logocentric” principle. On the contrary, Jahweh is to us the very incarnation of the savage fanaticism that has its origins in the deserts of Syria.

Nor can we dismiss the revolt of a new human type against the hither-Asiatic world as “a swindle of the spirit.”

The struggle to rescue life, and our own life in particular, through the mission of National Socialism, will result in the restoration of meaning and purpose to those who had succumbed to the pointless drift that ruled the degenerate age of recent memory; and this rescue will be achieved, not on the basis of economic considerations, but solely through the purposive preservation of the powers of life.

Life is, consequently, perpetually plastic in form; the expression of lifes inner and outer form is work, regardless of whether this work is artistic, philosophical, or political; when life is organic, it forms the comprehensive expression of soul, body, will, and reason. That is our most dearly cherished conviction. That attitude was, I must insist, the pre-condition for the great German rebirth, for the deliverance of German life from mortal danger. It was also a turning point in an even more comprehensive sense in that the dangers that threatened the other peoples of Europe were also averted, and the future will clearly show that the National Socialist Revolution restored life to all of the cultures of Europe.

In early 1938, an article entitled Wir stehen zu Ludwig Klages appeared in the second January number of Wille und Macht, the official journal of the Hitler Youth. The (anonymous) author of the piece expressed a qualified approval of the Klagesian philosophy, and it was after reading this essay that a furious Rosenbergwhose hostility to Klages was so persistent that, as we shall see below, he was still obsessing about Klages as he sat awaiting death in his cell at NurembergRosenberg finally decided to mount an official campaign against the philosopher and his disciples.

II.

Excerpt from Der Mythus des 20. Jahrhunderts:

We now find ourselves in conflict with genuinely original forces of our age, with men who have also been willing to bury their dead, and with whom we have often come into sympathetic contact. Nevertheless, these very forces, justifiably rebelling against a frightful, ice-cold rationalism, now seek to revert to “primordial depths” (Urtiefen), proclaiming an all-out war against the spirit (Geist) itself in order to restore the body-soul unity by means of a philosophy that rejects reason, understanding, and will as manifestations of that spirit.

One is reminded at once of the emotional “return to nature” as well as of the valorization of the “primitive” that came upon the scene during the latter half of the eighteenth century. However, even the excesses of that age seem temperate and rational by comparison with the formulations of men like Ludwig Klages and Melchior Palgyi. What todays psychology (Seelenkunde) and characterology are lacking, in fact, lies at an even deeper level than that to which these men have penetrated, for the only thing that can provide an organic infrastructure for their enterprise is the substance of the race-soul.

The appearance of a clearly defined consciousness is seen by these thinkers as the initial alienation of heroic man from his creative original state (Urzustand), his loss of a world that he had hitherto regarded with awe and reverence. They see in this primordial state the only authentic life that man has ever lived, a life that has since become tainted by exaggeratedly rational ideas and conceptual schemes. We immediately perceive the affinity as well as the incompatibility that exists between our own racial-spiritual world-view and that of the cosmogonic-psychical (Psycho-Kosmogonie) school. For them, the intellect is reduced to a mere implement that is completely without substance; its sole use is as a tool that facilitates the establishing of the causal nexus. However, once the intellect seizes the throne as a universal law-giver, this eventuality can indeed be seen as the downfall of a culture, since it provides conclusive evidence (unfortunately ignored by our neo-vitalists) of racial contamination. Up to this point there are many points of agreement between the two schools. Nevertheless, we insist that there is no necessity to assail reason and purpose as spiritual enemies. We realize just how, in sharp contrast to the peoples of the Semitic world, the Nordic worlds attitude toward the cosmos manifests a complete union between soul, will, and reason. We have no interest in such an abstraction as “primitive man,” with his putative “confidence in earthly existence” (Weltsicherheit), for what interests us is the man of clearly distinct racial character. And one fact here seems to us to be quite curious, because we cannot avoid the impression that these embittered warriors against the life-alien rationalism of modernity have concocted their instinctively creative and heroic primitivesin what seems to us to be a completely rational manner.

Excerpt from Heinrich Hrtles edition of Dr. Rosenbergs Memoirs, entitled Grossdeutschland: Traum und TragdieRosenbergs Kritik am Hitlerismus(SELBSTVERLAG H. HRTLE MNCHEN 1969):

For many years Frau [Else] Bruckmann had been sponsoring the lecture-cycles given by Ludwig Klages and [Alfred] Schuler, and she was obviously quite impressed by their doctrines. After I had thoroughly familiarized myself with the thought-world of Klages, I had occasion to say to her that he had made a whole career out of a single aperu; she was visibly offended by my remark.

APPENDIX II:

NSDAPs Official Greeting to Klages on the Occasion of his 70th Birthday (Berlin Edition of the Vlkischer Beobachter 12/10/42):

On the 70th birthday of Ludwig Klages, we wish once again to insist that we regard this man as our enemy. With regard to all of the decisive philosophical questions, we state that there can be no reconciliation whatsoever between the World-View of Klages and that of the National Socialist Movement. His view of nature and history, of man and his future, is, in principle, utterly incompatible with the fundamental theses of National Socialism!

Kevin Alfred Strom (born August 17, 1956) is an American white nationalist, neo-nazi, Holocaust denier, white separatist and associate editor of National Vanguard. Strom resigned from National Vanguard in July 2006,[1] but rejoined in 2012.

In 2008 Strom pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 23 months in prison.[2]

Kevin Alfred Strom was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1956. It has been claimed[according to whom?] that Strom scored a perfect 1600 on the Scholastic Achievement Test exam, although this is dubious; he has never attended a university.[3] Strom claims to have attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia without taking a degree.

Strom’s marriage to his first wife, Kirsten Kaiser, produced three children.[3] Since their marriage ended, Kaiser has spoken out about her life with Strom in several interviews.[3][4] She has also written a book on her experiences with Strom and the National Alliance entitled The Bondage of Self (ISBN 0-9720705-5-9). Kaiser claimed that Strom was an extremely controlling husband who forced her to abstain from meat, forbade her to wear blue jeans, and predetermined her favorite music, Mozart.[4] She has since disavowed the racist beliefs that she held while in her two marriages with her second husband Joseph McLaughlin and with her third husband Strom.[4]

In 1982, Strom became a member of the National Alliance, a group that has been described as antisemitic,[5][6]racist,[6][7] and neo-Nazi.[8][9][10][11] In 1991, he founded and frequently delivered the American Dissident Voices shortwave and Internet radio broadcasts. In 1995, he founded and edited Free Speech magazine, published by the Alliance as an adjunct to the radio program. In early 2002, a few months before his death from cancer on July 23, the Alliance’s founder, William Luther Pierce, named Strom editor of National Vanguard magazine and Media Director for the Alliance. Pierce also named Strom editor of the Alliance’s monthly Bulletin.

During the weekend of April 1617, 2005, Strom and several others were expelled from the National Alliance because of a dispute with the Alliance leadership.[6] The expelled former Alliance members, led by Strom, formed their own organization which they called National Vanguard. As he had done for the National Alliance, Strom again delivered weekly Internet radio broadcasts which he also called American Dissident Voices for National Vanguard, but they were often 13 weeks late. These broadcasts effectively ceased with his departure.

Strom was briefly the managing editor of The Truth at Last newspaper during 2005. Several sources have described this tabloid as being heavily antisemitic and racist, often referring to blacks and African-Americans as an inferior race.[10][12] Strom’s boss at The Truth at Last, Edward Fields, is a former Grand Dragon of the New Order Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.[13]

Strom was a close associate of University of Illinois Classics professor and nationalist writer Revilo P. Oliver, who has been described as “one of America’s most notorious fascists” and, according to B’nai Brith Canada, was “a long time proponent of antisemitism”.[14] Strom was chosen by the Oliver estate to be the archivist and publisher of Oliver’s papers after Oliver committed suicide in 1994. In 2002, Strom published Oliver’s book, The Jewish Strategy.

Strom is a former broadcast engineer and holds amateur radio license WB4AIO. Between 1983 and 1991, a pirate radio station named “Voice of Tomorrow” operated on shortwave and mediumwave frequencies,[15] broadcasting openly racist and Neo-Nazi material,[16] presumably from the Lynchburg, Virginia area.[17] According to Strom’s ex-wife, Kirsten Kaiser, “Voice of Tomorrow” was operated by Strom.[4]

On January 4, 2007, Strom was arrested in Greene County, Virginia on charges of possession of child pornography and witness tampering.[18] The Grand Jury later added the charges of receiving child pornography and of seeking to coerce a 10-year-old into a sexual relationship. At the October 2007 federal trial on charges of sexually coercing a 10-year-old girl, and of witness intimidation, the judge threw out both charges due to lack of evidence. [19]

They were last seen alive by a friend at 10 AM. By 1:40 PM they were all dead.

According to police, two Blacks, Ray Dandridge and Ricky Gray, entered the Harvey home, while a third Black, Ashley Baskerville, may have served as a lookout on the street. Dandridge and Gray overpowered the Harveys, bound them, tortured and beat them with blunt objects, then methodically slit all of their throats and set their house on fire to destroy the evidence of their deeds. The Harveys, including their little girls, were obviously innocent of any offense against their killers the motive was probably robbery according to reports but the savage and bestial nature of the criminals led them inexorably to their acts. They are suspected of a string of similar killings. We will never know to what extent, if any, the hate Whitey attitude prevailing in the media fueled the rage of the killers, but we do know that Bryan Harveys evocation of White racial guilt in one of his songs White Folks Blood didnt help him or his wife or children when the animals got out their knives.

FBI and local crime statistics show beyond doubt that Blacks are far less disciplined, far more violent, and far more criminal than Whites. No matter how differently the 5 per cent. or so of accomplished, educated Blacks and mixed-race Mulattos may act, the research report The Color of Crime reveals that on average Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery. Mestizos commit violent crimes at three times the White rate. Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving Blacks and Whites, Blacks commit 85 per cent. and Whites commit 15 per cent. Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a White than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery. The proportion of Blacks and Mestizos in an area is,statistically, the single best indicator of how dangerous it is.

Arguably the only true intellectual remaining in the American neo-Nazi movement following the 2002 death of National Alliancefounder William Pierce, Kevin Alfred Strom, who served for years as Pierce’s right-hand man, is a bookish yet dogmatic neo-Nazi whose predilection for child pornography ultimately ruined his efforts to claim his former master’s legacy. Since serving a federal prison term for possessing such material, Strom has largely avoided activism in the white supremacist movement, most of whose enthusiasts have repudiated him as an embarrassment, sexual criminal, and liability to the cause.

In His Own Words “Both psychologically and materially Whites in modern times are called upon to bear the burdens of guilt and monetary reparation for Black slavery. Criminal History In 2008, Kevin Strom was convicted of federal possession of child pornography charges and sentenced to 23 months in prison. In 1987, Strom was arrested outside the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a pro-apartheid rally. Police said they found him in possession of detailed sketches of a downtown office building where Nelson Mandela was scheduled to speak. All charges were eventually dropped.

Background In a 1993 radio broadcast, Kevin Alfred Strom poetically described what he considers a major influence on his political awakening: “Growing up in Alaska, I came to love its wild beauty, its endless twilights and its titanic scale. I developed an appreciation for wild animals which expresses itself today in my abhorrence for any mistreatment or unnecessary killing of my fellow Earth creatures.” Indeed, Strom remains a devout vegetarian and frequently preaches about the majestic beauty of the United States.

But this same Strom also describes a more sinister influence on his political development. In a time of widespread fears of communist takeover, Strom’s high school history teacher fueled his budding hatred of communism and introduced a young Strom to the far-right John Birch Society, where he allegedly encountered members of William Pierce’s neo-Nazi National Alliance (NA). Having attending numerous lectures by what he called the “illustrious” NA founder, Strom claims that he abandoned the John Birch Society entirely because, despite their good intentions, “members of the group were forbidden to discuss a certain topic, a topic that is crucial for a full understanding of our nation’s dilemma. This topic was race.”

William Pierce rapidly inculcated in Strom the most virulent racist and anti-Semitic sensibilities. Through Pierce, Strom learned about the machinations of ZOG (the Zionist Occupied Government, the name given by the radical right to the federal government), the degeneracy of the civil rights movement, and the all-round superiority of the white race.

Strom’s closeness to Pierce was enduring. Immediately following his graduation from high school, he began working for the NA leader, putting both his intellectual and his technical skills at the service of the growing organization. From installing the telephone and alarm systems in the new West Virginia mountaintop compound that Pierce inaugurated in 1985, to creating and hosting the NA’s radio show (“American Dissident Voices”) and editing its publication (National Vanguard), Strom rose to become Pierce’s favorite aide. It was Pierce, in fact, who introduced Strom to Kirsten Kaiser, whom he married in 1990. The couple moved to their mentor’s West Virginia compound in 1991.

He also announced the already-ongoing construction of a new Alliance headquarters located, like the original, in Eastern Tennessee.[2] The National Alliance Reform & Restoration Group, which hopes to retake control of the original organization from Gliebe, called the move illegal and declared its opposition to Strom’s plans.[3]

National Vanguard is an American national socialist organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia, founded in 2005 by Kevin Alfred Strom and former members of the National Alliance.[1]

The group was founded by dissident members of the National Alliance. The National Alliance’s 5-man Executive Committee, a think-tank created by Erich Gliebe 5-months earlier to explore new ideas, issued a formal declaration called “A Time for Leadership.”[2] The declaration decried then-Chairman Erich Gliebe’s dissolution of the National Alliance Board of Directors (sic), (this never occurred, the BoD has not changed since 2003) reducing its composition to include merely himself and COO Shaun Walker. It called for a reconstitution of the Board of Directors, and the merger of the Board with the Executive Committee in both membership and function. Gliebe and Walker rejected the declaration.

Gliebe and Walker claimed that Kevin Strom was not performing his job well as editor of their magazine, which was always many months late. There was a pay dispute where Kevin Strom claimed Shaun Walker was not paying him all his pay, which became a public dispute within Internet chat-rooms. This pay dispute and other internal conflicts created an atmosphere of petty personality conflicts which grew for 6 months until it erupted.

There were no legal options to take, so in April 2005 “National Vanguard” was formally organized by some former National Alliance Unit Coordinators and five members of the Executive Committee.[3]

The main issues cited for the split with the National Alliance were over the creation of an expanded Board of Directors, prompt and professional publishing of a news-magazine and open accounting of all funds collected. The new organization picked Kevin Alfred Strom as its new leader, but a Board of Directors was never created. Within 8 months half of all National Vanguard members had either resigned or formed another new group. Most of the key leaders who planned the initial coup from the National Alliance group had quit National Vanguard within 15 months, but without all the open Internet airing of “internal laundry.” In January 2007 Strom was arrested by the FBI and Federal Marshals for child pornography related charges and in 2008 he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 23 months in prison.[4]

As of October 2010, National Vanguard maintains a website featuring daily articles and updates.[1][5]

Since the reorganization of National Vanguard, the group has been focused upon unit meetings and the distribution of fliers. A boycott against the hardware chain The Home Depot was started because of their illegal immigrant stance. Units in Florida, Nevada, and New Jersey appear to be the most active. Members are attempting to form a new political party in Nevada: the White People’s Party.[6] One plank in the party’s platform calls for “the White Race” to be placed on the endangered species list since “all relevant laws are working against the continued existence of Whites.”[7]

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the U.S. Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005, a National Vanguard First Response Team was organized to help white families in Alabama and Mississippi Sept. 20, 2005. Their decision to help only white victims of Katrina has been described as “reprehensible”.[8]

In 2005, National Vanguard showcased the pop-music duo Prussian Blue, made up of twin sisters from Bakersfield, California, Lynx and Lamb Gaede, whom the organization hoped would “be breaking new ground…creating an entire genre of pro-White music” that will cross over to mainstream audiences.[9][10] Their mother, April, is a writer and activist for National Vanguard.

In February 2006, the Tampa and Denver units of National Vanguard announced they were leaving the organization, citing a variety of complaints including a claim that National Vanguard had collected money for subscriptions to the tabloid, V, without subsequently delivering a product to subscribers. The two units have now formed a new organization the Nationalist Coalition.

AUTHORS BIO: Born in 1956 in Anchorage, Alaska, the son of third-generation Norwegian-American parents, Kevin Alfred Strom moved to northern Virginia as a child. He attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia but did not take a degree, describing his education as mainly the product of my own reading and interaction with several of the finest friends, teachers, and mentors a man could ever want this side of ancient Athens.

His interest in politics and ideas began when he was only 12 years old. He worked with William L. Pierce, Richard Cotten, and Revilo Oliver beginning in the early 1980s, producing hundreds of radio, audio and video programs, thousands of essays, and numerous articles, books, periodicals and anthologies.

A radio amateur since 1972 and a broadcast engineer since 1976, his first foray into electronic publishing was as the operator of a C64-based dial up Bulletin Board System in the Washington, DC area in the mid-1980s. In 1991, he began producing radio programs heard on more than two dozen AM, FM, and shortwave broadcast stations. In 1994, he began Internet distribution of those programs as well as written material, and in 1995 he began what eventually became the Revilo Pendleton Oliver Web site.

Dedicated to exposing alien influence, corruption and criminality in government and the media, Kevin Strom has made powerful enemies and, despite his gentle and law-abiding nature, has found himself falsely charged with crime and wrongdoing on several occasions.

In the 1990s he was falsely charged with assaulting a corrupt federal intelligence officer at a demonstration against violent Communist/ANC terrorist Nelson Mandela. He was acquitted because, unknown at the time to the intelligence officer, another police unit had videotaped the entire affair and the tape showed that the officer (62, 250 lbs., heavily armed) attacked Strom (59, 155 lbs., unarmed) in a completely unprovoked manner, not the other way around.

A few years later, utterly preposterous allegations of terrorism were used to severely, and heartbreakingly, restrict his parenting time with his three young children.

I do not intend to refute Klages, as one might expect, but to examine his concept of life as it is in itself, as well as in the context of our Germanic life. Nevertheless, there must be no confusion here, for the National Socialist Movement does not “endorse” the philosophy of Ludwig Klages, and it most emphatically does not “stand by his side”; on the contrary, what is at issue here is our need for a straight answer to a crucial question: now that the Reich has recovered from the critical disease that almost destroyed it, are Klages and his circle of disciples willing to reconcile themselves to this reborn German way of life? As I have indicated a moment ago, I have no interest in utilizing this forum as an opportunity to indulge in a bit of carping criticism, for I must resist the temptation to participate in petty polemical disputes. Instead, I will avail myself of this opportunity to cite a series of pronouncements that Klages himself has made in his various publications, and to confront them with pronouncements that have been formulated by the official spokesmen of the National Socialist Movement in the course of almost twenty years of struggle, during which our movement ceaselessly re-evaluated its most fundamental principles. In his entire career Klages has formulated but one basic thought, and it would be improper for me to seek to trivialize this central principle that has, in effect, determined the whole course of his speculative life. On the contrary, the philosophy of Ludwig Klages stands or falls solely on the basis of the validity of the crucial postulate to which I allude, and which can be summarized as follows: the original sin of mankind transpired at the moment when the ecstatic, image-laden, and rhythmically pulsating life that man enjoyed during the primordial [“Pelasgian”] phase of existence was invaded by “spirit” (Geist), an entity whose essence is expressed in such phenomena as the will-to-power, purposeful activity, and the dictatorship of reason. All of the manifold horrors that comprise “World History” are, in the view of Klages, the ineluctable results of this invasion. In a characteristic utterance drawn from one of his major works, he explicitly states that the history of mankind clearly reveals the fact that it is in man, and only in man, that there occurs a “battle to the knife” between the power of universal love and a force that erupts into the sphere of life from outside the spatio-temporal continuum. This invader is spirit, the force that seeks to sever the poles of life in order to destroy life by tearing the soul from the body and the body from the soul. In addition, Klages interprets the duality of our nature as the result of the destructive effects of critical consciousness and purposeful will upon mans living substance. From this inner turmoil arises the ego or self, viz., the person. These are merely the masks that now govern our lives, which are conducted solely under the demands of thought and will. It is only through the ego that we can still hear the voice of the cosmos from which we have been expelled. Our masks have at last grown into our very flesh, to which they cling more tenaciously with every passing century. Thus, after a pre-history guided by the soul, Klages tells us, follows the history that is ruled by spirit; finally, in “post-history” man will become the mask itself, the hollow simulacrum of a living being. After all the filth and humiliation that it has had to endure, life comes to its dreadful end at the moment when the triumphant mask celebrates the conversion of once-living man into the “mock-man,” the Golem. Thus speaks Klages, our own Cassandra, and youll doubtless recall that it was the unfortunate destiny of Cassandra to be dismissed as an utter lunatic by those whose blindness to the actual state of affairs was so complete that they ignored her (accurate) prophecies, thereby assuring the consummation of the awful doom that awaited them. We might even see in this allusion to Cassandra a crystallization of Klagess whole attitude to life. In truth, he never seems to tire of proclaiming such dire prophecies in the most strident accents. In one utterance, he informs us that spirit is, in fact, the parasitic logos. In his later works he excoriates the spirit as a void without revelations, a nothingness whose only purpose is the ultimate annihilation of the substance of life. Briefly expressed, Klages insists that life and spirit (which in this philosophers thought comprises reason, understanding, and will) constitute the irreducibly antagonistic principles of existence. In this proposition, Klages effectively epitomizes the conclusion to which his examination of the phenomena of life as well his scrutiny of history have inexorably led him, and, we must admit, he defends this unique position with an incomparable eloquence and with a truly massive scholarship. Contemporary realities, however, have confounded the certainties of this oracle, for the Germanic powers of resistance that have recently been manifested were far greater than could ever have been imagined by admirers of the metaphysical dirges of this prophet of doom. At last the Faustian spirit shouted his defiant: “Alone, I will!” And it was precisely in the time of our most dreadful decline that there began not only Germanys political rebirth, but the rebirth of our spirit and soul as well. We are particularly troubled by the fact that Klages reserves his most bitter diatribes for the Hellenic world, to which he imputes the lions share of responsibility for the entry into history of the so-called spirit. Klages actually prefers an earlier and, in his view, more vital historical phase, to which he has given the name “the Pelasgian Age.” He has delved deeply into the pre-historic cultures of the eastern Mediterranean (kleinasiatischen Vlkerschaft), and he finds the ecstasies, mother-goddesses, and matriarchies that are so rampant in that cultural sphere, to be admirable, and even exemplary, expressions of Dionysian vitality. Thus, it is only logically consistent that Klages should break a lance against Nordic Hellas, a procedure that appears to me to be a most dangerous undertaking, since we feel that in adopting this approach Klages seems far less likely to discover the well-springs of a primordial vitality than to find himself proceeding swiftly down the road to madness. As it happens, we know today that Classical Greece was definitely not an evolutionary cultural development that was the creative achievement of the genetic descendants of “Pelasgian” and hither-Asiatic types; the Greeks of the great period, in truth, constituted the representatives of a new race, one that would eventually force those self-same eastern Mediterranean peoples to submit to their military yoke, just as they would in the course of time replace the spiritual attitudes of the Levantines with their own ethical values and sthetic ideals. Hellas formed a unique protest of renewed life against the ecstasies, chthonic cults, and gloomy practices of an alien realm, and Apollo is the god whose name embodies for us the transformed Greek world that took its place. The “Pelasgian” world, on the other hand, represents the sinking back into a formless confusion characterized by rampant race chaos and disorder of soul. We most emphatically refuse to recognize the value of such dismal conditions. To what extent Klages oversteps the bounds of an authentic philosophical-historical empiricism can be demonstrated in his denial of the existential powers of race (which are the concrete powers of life). An exceptionally blatant manifestation of this blindness occurs in his philosophizing on the so-called “telluric” turn. His statements here clearly indicate that Klages, who has certainly had every opportunity to familiarize himself with the findings of racial science during the last few decades, has utterly ignored these forces of the blood, believing them to be completely irrelevant to his metaphysical speculations. Likewise, Klages has encouraged certain petty scribblers among his disciples to vilify Immanuel Kant, this greatest of all thinkers. [One of them, Werner Deubel,] has published some of the most demented drivel that has ever been concocted by a sectarians brain; these documents are the most impudent that have come to my attention in many years, and, indeed, these writings seem as if they had been devised as an attack upon the very foundations of our National Socialist World-View! These disciples of Klages refer to themselves as the “biocentric” school, and they regards it as their sacred mission to do battle with the so-called “mechanistic” philosophy; nevertheless, the far greater danger that I believe confronts us today is, rather, the biocentric philosophy itself, which must not be permitted to infect with its false teachings the scientific doctrines espoused by the National Socialist Movement. Precisely how life and the lifeless are related to each other is not a matter than can be settled by dogmatic proclamations. The two most prominent methods, howeverthe first, to grasp life by means of life (through observation of inner and outer experience), and, the second, to study the cosmos by means of mechanistic and mathematical methodstogether comprise the indivisible essence of Germanic scientific research. In the final analysis, spirit is not, as Klages believes, a power from outside the spatio-temporal continuum that has irrupted into an idyllic paradise. On the contrary, spirit is an integral element of our national life. And we cannot agree with Klages when he simply equates the God Jahweh of the Old Testament with the “logocentric” principle. On the contrary, Jahweh is to us the very incarnation of the savage fanaticism that has its origins in the deserts of Syria. Nor can we dismiss the revolt of a new human type against the hither-Asiatic world as “a swindle of the spirit.” The struggle to rescue life, and our own life in particular, through the mission of National Socialism, will result in the restoration of meaning and purpose to those who had succumbed to the pointless drift that ruled the degenerate age of recent memory; and this rescue will be achieved, not on the basis of economic considerations, but solely through the purposive preservation of the powers of life. Life is, consequently, perpetually plastic in form; the expression of lifes inner and outer form is work, regardless of whether this work is artistic, philosophical, or political; when life is organic, it forms the comprehensive expression of soul, body, will, and reason. That is our most dearly cherished conviction. That attitude was, I must insist, the pre-condition for the great German rebirth, for the deliverance of German life from mortal danger. It was also a turning point in an even more comprehensive sense in that the dangers that threatened the other peoples of Europe were also averted, and the future will clearly show that the National Socialist Revolution restored life to all of the cultures of Europe. In early 1938, an article entitled Wir stehen zu Ludwig Klages appeared in the second January number of Wille und Macht, the official journal of the Hitler Youth. The (anonymous) author of the piece expressed a qualified approval of the Klagesian philosophy, and it was after reading this essay that a furious Rosenbergwhose hostility to Klages was so persistent that, as we shall see below, he was still obsessing about Klages as he sat awaiting death in his cell at NurembergRosenberg finally decided to mount an official campaign against the philosopher and his disciples. II. Excerpt from Der Mythus des 20. Jahrhunderts: We now find ourselves in conflict with genuinely original forces of our age, with men who have also been willing to bury their dead, and with whom we have often come into sympathetic contact. Nevertheless, these very forces, justifiably rebelling against a frightful, ice-cold rationalism, now seek to revert to “primordial depths” (Urtiefen), proclaiming an all-out war against the spirit (Geist) itself in order to restore the body-soul unity by means of a philosophy that rejects reason, understanding, and will as manifestations of that spirit. One is reminded at once of the emotional “return to nature” as well as of the valorization of the “primitive” that came upon the scene during the latter half of the eighteenth century. However, even the excesses of that age seem temperate and rational by comparison with the formulations of men like Ludwig Klages and Melchior Palgyi. What todays psychology (Seelenkunde) and characterology are lacking, in fact, lies at an even deeper level than that to which these men have penetrated, for the only thing that can provide an organic infrastructure for their enterprise is the substance of the race-soul. The appearance of a clearly defined consciousness is seen by these thinkers as the initial alienation of heroic man from his creative original state (Urzustand), his loss of a world that he had hitherto regarded with awe and reverence. They see in this primordial state the only authentic life that man has ever lived, a life that has since become tainted by exaggeratedly rational ideas and conceptual schemes. We immediately perceive the affinity as well as the incompatibility that exists between our own racial-spiritual world-view and that of the cosmogonic-psychical (Psycho-Kosmogonie) school. For them, the intellect is reduced to a mere implement that is completely without substance; its sole use is as a tool that facilitates the establishing of the causal nexus. However, once the intellect seizes the throne as a universal law-giver, this eventuality can indeed be seen as the downfall of a culture, since it provides conclusive evidence (unfortunately ignored by our neo-vitalists) of racial contamination. Up to this point there are many points of agreement between the two schools. Nevertheless, we insist that there is no necessity to assail reason and purpose as spiritual enemies. We realize just how, in sharp contrast to the peoples of the Semitic world, the Nordic worlds attitude toward the cosmos manifests a complete union between soul, will, and reason. We have no interest in such an abstraction as “primitive man,” with his putative “confidence in earthly existence” (Weltsicherheit), for what interests us is the man of clearly distinct racial character. And one fact here seems to us to be quite curious, because we cannot avoid the impression that these embittered warriors against the life-alien rationalism of modernity have concocted their instinctively creative and heroic primitivesin what seems to us to be a completely rational manner. Kevin Alfred Strom (born August 17, 1956) is an American white nationalist, neo-nazi, Holocaust denier, white separatist and associate editor of National Vanguard. Strom resigned from National Vanguard in July 2006,[1] but rejoined in 2012. In 2008 Strom pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography and was sentenced to 23 months in prison.[2] Kevin Alfred Strom was born in Anchorage, Alaska in 1956. It has been claimed[according to whom?] that Strom scored a perfect 1600 on the Scholastic Achievement Test exam, although this is dubious; he has never attended a university.[3] Strom claims to have attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia without taking a degree. Strom’s marriage to his first wife, Kirsten Kaiser, produced three children.[3] Since their marriage ended, Kaiser has spoken out about her life with Strom in several interviews.[3][4] She has also written a book on her experiences with Strom and the National Alliance entitled The Bondage of Self (ISBN 0-9720705-5-9). Kaiser claimed that Strom was an extremely controlling husband who forced her to abstain from meat, forbade her to wear blue jeans, and predetermined her favorite music, Mozart.[4] She has since disavowed the racist beliefs that she held while in her two marriages with her second husband Joseph McLaughlin and with her third husband Strom.[4] In 1982, Strom became a member of the National Alliance, a group that has been described as antisemitic,[5][6]racist,[6][7] and neo-Nazi.[8][9][10][11] In 1991, he founded and frequently delivered the American Dissident Voices shortwave and Internet radio broadcasts. In 1995, he founded and edited Free Speech magazine, published by the Alliance as an adjunct to the radio program. In early 2002, a few months before his death from cancer on July 23, the Alliance’s founder, William Luther Pierce, named Strom editor of National Vanguard magazine and Media Director for the Alliance. Pierce also named Strom editor of the Alliance’s monthly Bulletin. During the weekend of April 1617, 2005, Strom and several others were expelled from the National Alliance because of a dispute with the Alliance leadership.[6] The expelled former Alliance members, led by Strom, formed their own organization which they called National Vanguard. As he had done for the National Alliance, Strom again delivered weekly Internet radio broadcasts which he also called American Dissident Voices for National Vanguard, but they were often 13 weeks late. These broadcasts effectively ceased with his departure. Strom was briefly the managing editor of The Truth at Last newspaper during 2005. Several sources have described this tabloid as being heavily antisemitic and racist, often referring to blacks and African-Americans as an inferior race.[10][12] Strom’s boss at The Truth at Last, Edward Fields, is a former Grand Dragon of the New Order Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.[13] Strom was a close associate of University of Illinois Classics professor and nationalist writer Revilo P. Oliver, who has been described as “one of America’s most notorious fascists” and, according to B’nai Brith Canada, was “a long time proponent of antisemitism”.[14] Strom was chosen by the Oliver estate to be the archivist and publisher of Oliver’s papers after Oliver committed suicide in 1994. In 2002, Strom published Oliver’s book, The Jewish Strategy. Strom is a former broadcast engineer and holds amateur radio license WB4AIO. Between 1983 and 1991, a pirate radio station named “Voice of Tomorrow” operated on shortwave and mediumwave frequencies,[15] broadcasting openly racist and Neo-Nazi material,[16] presumably from the Lynchburg, Virginia area.[17] According to Strom’s ex-wife, Kirsten Kaiser, “Voice of Tomorrow” was operated by Strom.[4] On January 4, 2007, Strom was arrested in Greene County, Virginia on charges of possession of child pornography and witness tampering.[18] The Grand Jury later added the charges of receiving child pornography and of seeking to coerce a 10-year-old into a sexual relationship. At the October 2007 federal trial on charges of sexually coercing a 10-year-old girl, and of witness intimidation, the judge threw out both charges due to lack of evidence. [19]

In 1987, Strom was arrested outside the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., for allegedly assaulting a police officer during a pro-apartheid rally. Police said they found him in possession of detailed sketches of a downtown office building where Nelson Mandela was scheduled to speak. All charges were eventually dropped. Background In a 1993 radio broadcast, Kevin Alfred Strom poetically described what he considers a major influence on his political awakening: “Growing up in Alaska, I came to love its wild beauty, its endless twilights and its titanic scale. I developed an appreciation for wild animals which expresses itself today in my abhorrence for any mistreatment or unnecessary killing of my fellow Earth creatures.” Indeed, Strom remains a devout vegetarian and frequently preaches about the majestic beauty of the United States. But this same Strom also describes a more sinister influence on his political development. In a time of widespread fears of communist takeover, Strom’s high school history teacher fueled his budding hatred of communism and introduced a young Strom to the far-right John Birch Society, where he allegedly encountered members of William Pierce’s neo-Nazi National Alliance (NA). Having attending numerous lectures by what he called the “illustrious” NA founder, Strom claims that he abandoned the John Birch Society entirely because, despite their good intentions, “members of the group were forbidden to discuss a certain topic, a topic that is crucial for a full understanding of our nation’s dilemma. This topic was race.” William Pierce rapidly inculcated in Strom the most virulent racist and anti-Semitic sensibilities. Through Pierce, Strom learned about the machinations of ZOG (the Zionist Occupied Government, the name given by the radical right to the federal government), the degeneracy of the civil rights movement, and the all-round superiority of the white race. Strom’s closeness to Pierce was enduring. Immediately following his graduation from high school, he began working for the NA leader, putting both his intellectual and his technical skills at the service of the growing organization. From installing the telephone and alarm systems in the new West Virginia mountaintop compound that Pierce inaugurated in 1985, to creating and hosting the NA’s radio show (“American Dissident Voices”) and editing its publication (National Vanguard), Strom rose to become Pierce’s favorite aide. It was Pierce, in fact, who introduced Strom to Kirsten Kaiser, whom he married in 1990. The couple moved to their mentor’s West Virginia compound in 1991.

National Vanguard is an American national socialist organization based in Charlottesville, Virginia, founded in 2005 by Kevin Alfred Strom and former members of the National Alliance.[1] The group was founded by dissident members of the National Alliance. The National Alliance’s 5-man Executive Committee, a think-tank created by Erich Gliebe 5-months earlier to explore new ideas, issued a formal declaration called “A Time for Leadership.”[2] The declaration decried then-Chairman Erich Gliebe’s dissolution of the National Alliance Board of Directors (sic), (this never occurred, the BoD has not changed since 2003) reducing its composition to include merely himself and COO Shaun Walker. It called for a reconstitution of the Board of Directors, and the merger of the Board with the Executive Committee in both membership and function. Gliebe and Walker rejected the declaration. Gliebe and Walker claimed that Kevin Strom was not performing his job well as editor of their magazine, which was always many months late. There was a pay dispute where Kevin Strom claimed Shaun Walker was not paying him all his pay, which became a public dispute within Internet chat-rooms. This pay dispute and other internal conflicts created an atmosphere of petty personality conflicts which grew for 6 months until it erupted. There were no legal options to take, so in April 2005 “National Vanguard” was formally organized by some former National Alliance Unit Coordinators and five members of the Executive Committee.[3] The main issues cited for the split with the National Alliance were over the creation of an expanded Board of Directors, prompt and professional publishing of a news-magazine and open accounting of all funds collected. The new organization picked Kevin Alfred Strom as its new leader, but a Board of Directors was never created. Within 8 months half of all National Vanguard members had either resigned or formed another new group. Most of the key leaders who planned the initial coup from the National Alliance group had quit National Vanguard within 15 months, but without all the open Internet airing of “internal laundry.” In January 2007 Strom was arrested by the FBI and Federal Marshals for child pornography related charges and in 2008 he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 23 months in prison.[4] As of October 2010, National Vanguard maintains a website featuring daily articles and updates.[1][5] Since the reorganization of National Vanguard, the group has been focused upon unit meetings and the distribution of fliers. A boycott against the hardware chain The Home Depot was started because of their illegal immigrant stance. Units in Florida, Nevada, and New Jersey appear to be the most active. Members are attempting to form a new political party in Nevada: the White People’s Party.[6] One plank in the party’s platform calls for “the White Race” to be placed on the endangered species list since “all relevant laws are working against the continued existence of Whites.”[7] In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, which struck the U.S. Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005, a National Vanguard First Response Team was organized to help white families in Alabama and Mississippi Sept. 20, 2005. Their decision to help only white victims of Katrina has been described as “reprehensible”.[8] In 2005, National Vanguard showcased the pop-music duo Prussian Blue, made up of twin sisters from Bakersfield, California, Lynx and Lamb Gaede, whom the organization hoped would “be breaking new ground…creating an entire genre of pro-White music” that will cross over to mainstream audiences.[9][10] Their mother, April, is a writer and activist for National Vanguard. In February 2006, the Tampa and Denver units of National Vanguard announced they were leaving the organization, citing a variety of complaints including a claim that National Vanguard had collected money for subscriptions to the tabloid, V, without subsequently delivering a product to subscribers. The two units have now formed a new organization the Nationalist Coalition.
