Russell Tribunal on Palestine Demands Ending Occupation, Enabling Palestinians to Exercise Right to Self-Determination

BRUSSELS, September 25, 2014 (WAFA) The Russell Tribunal on Palestine (RToP) Thursday demanded the international community to end the Israeli occupation and enable the Palestinians to exercise their right to self-determination.

The RToP made this call during a press conference marking the end of an extraordinary session on the crimes that were committed by Israel during the latest onslaught on the Gaza Strip, including war crimes, crimes against humanity and the crime of genocide. The conference was attended by Palestinian Ambassador to the European Union (EU) Laila Shahid.

The RToP called for prosecuting Israel for its crimes that the tribunal listened to and examined based on related testimonies and reports.

In their presentations, the tribunal members and the EU called for the imposition of a comprehensive arms embargo against Israel and the immediate recognition of the State of Palestine.

The RToP called the State of Palestine to accede to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and urged the international community to intensify boycott campaigns against Israel.

The RToP was held on Wednesday and Thursday September 24 and 25. The jury was composed of Michael Mansfield QC, John Dugard, Vandana Shiva, Christiane Hessel, Richard Falk, Ahdaf Soueif, Ken Loach, Paul Laverty, Roger Waters, Ronnie Kasrils, Radhia Nasraoui and Miguel Angel Estrella. They listened to testimonies from Paul Behrens, Desmond Travers, David Sheen, Max Blumenthal, Eran Efrati, Mads Gilbert, Mohammed Abou-Arab, Mads Gilbert, Paul Mason, Martin Lejeune, Mohammed Omer, Raji Sourani, Ashraf Mashharawi, Ivan Karakashian, Agnes Bertrand and Michael Deas.

Following the session, the jury was received at the European parliament and addressed a message to the UN General Assembly for its reopening.

Reform legislation has stalled, and the private-prison industry is making obscene profits from a captive population.

In a bloody career that spanned decades, he destroyed entire cities and presided over the killing of countless civilians.

A continuing conversation about Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel.

Its deploying all its resources to fight the growing world movement against the occupation.

A trip through the Negev Desert leads to the heart of Israel’s national nightmare.

For Syrian refugees in Jordans Zaatari camp, arguments about international law ring hollow.

Forced into retirement by Brotherhood pressure, renowned left-wing Egyptian journalist Hani Shukrallah discusses the governments project to control the media.

State Assemblyman Dov Hikind was deeply involved in the Jewish Defense League, which the FBI listed as a violent extremist Jewish organization. Other officials should be questioning him, not the college.

The polls were a rebuke to Netanyahu, and the centrist Yesh Atid did very well. But far-right extremists are steadily gaining strength.

Fair Use Disclaimer

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Under the 'fair use' rule of copyright law, an author may make limited use of another author's work without asking permission. Fair use is based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism. The fair use privilege is perhaps the most significant limitation on a copyright owner's exclusive rights.

Fair use as described at 17 U.S.C. Section 107:

"Notwithstanding the provisions of section 106 and 106A, the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phono-records or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright.

In determining whether the use made of a work in any particular case is a fair use the factors to be considered shall include:

  • (1) the purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for or nonprofit educational purposes,
  • (2) the nature of the copyrighted work,
  • (3) the amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole, and
  • (4) the effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work."
