War talk on Iran forces the issue: Is Israel a formal US ally?
According to polls, Americans remain wary of supporting the idea of either Israel or the United States or both together attacking Irans nuclear facilities. Perhaps one reason for this hesitancy is the fact that Israel, in a historic choice to rely on itself for defense, has never become an official US ally. America has no treaty obligation to come to Israels defense as it does with many countries in Europe and Asia.

Iran parliament vote seen bolstering Supreme Leader
TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iranians voted on Friday in a parliamentary election likely to reinforce Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s power over rival hardliners led by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Iranian leaders were looking for a high turnout to ease an acute crisis of legitimacy caused by Ahmadinejad’s re-election in 2009 when widespread accusations of fraud plunged the Islamic Republic into the worst unrest of its 33-year history. Iran also faces economic turmoil compounded by Western sanctions over a nuclear program that has prompted threats of military action by Israel, whose leader meets U.S

Third Bangkok Suspect Arrested as Israel Connects Bombings
As Israel's ambassador to Thailand connected the explosions there to recent attacks in India and Georgia, escalating the war-like rhetoric as Malaysian police arrested a third Iranian suspect in the Bangkok blasts on Wednesday. They nabbed the 31-year-old man at the airport in Kuala Lumpur just before he boarded a plane bound for Iran, Malaysia Star reports. RELATED: Ahmadinejad Says 'Bombs Are for Retarded People' Meanwhile, Israel's ambassador to Thailand, Itzhak Shoham, said police in Bangkok had found magnetic bombs that could be stuck to vehicles, “similar to the ones used in Dehli and Tbilisi” amid the crime scene where a cache of explosives went off in a house on Tuesday. “From that we can assume that there is the same network of terror,” Shoham said.

Gaza protesters hurl shoes as UN leader
UN leader Ban Ki-moon has come under a brief shower of shoes as he entered Hamas-run Gaza, hours after a barrage of rockets was fired from the territory into Israel. As the UN chief entered the Palestinian territory on Thursday, protesters threw shoes, sand and small stones at his convoy, which was briefly held up before continuing on to Khan Yunis in the southern Gaza Strip. A crowd of around 50 demonstrators, most of them relatives of Palestinians in Israeli jails, said they were protesting the fact that Ban was not meeting with them or Palestinian prisoner groups during his brief trip to Gaza.
