Nathan Englander does it again in What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank
Novels often get graded on a curve. The occasional boring patch is easily tolerated an implausible plot twist, here and there, is to be expected. The point is: you can still love a flawed novel.

Condo owner fights to display Jewish symbol
A Connecticut condominium owner has been told by the complex’s management association that she must remove a Jewish religious symbol or face fines, advocates told FoxNews.com. Barbara Cadranel, an internationally-renown harpsichordist living in Stratford, Conn., contacted the Connecticut Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League earlier this month to report that she had been told by the California Condo Association to remove the mezuzah — a small object inscribed with Hebrew verses from the Torah placed on the doorpost of a Jewish family’s home — or face fines of $50 per day, according to ADL’s Connecticut Regional Director Gary Jones. “It’s pretty rare,” Jones said of disputes between condominium association and owners involving mezuzot

West Bank outpost at center of Israeli battle over rule of law
MIGRON, West Bank This forlorn wind-whipped rise is not much to look at. It is topped with a set of dingy trailers, a basketball hoop, a water tower and a pair of antennas. But in recent months, the hilltop settlement has taken on great symbolic weight as the focus of a legal fight whose outcome most everyone involved says could shape the direction of Israel.

Gunman behind France terror attacks buried
(AP) TOULOUSE, France – The gunman who claimed responsibility for France’s worst terror attacks in years was buried Thursday in a Toulouse cemetery, ending a tortured debate over what to do with the body of a man the president called a “monster.” France is still reeling from the killings of three Jewish schoolchildren, a rabbi and three paratroopers that revived worries about Islamist extremism and shook up the French presidential campaign. Mohamed Merah, a 23-year-old Frenchman, was buried Thursday in the Muslim section of a cemetery in the Toulouse neighborhood of Cornebarrieu. About 20 men attended the ceremony, hiding their faces from reporters gathered outside

Jewish Home Movies Provide Backdrop for Skirball Exhibit
Jewish Home Movies Provide Backdrop for Skirball Exhibit 2012-03-29 ‘Jewish Homegrown History: Immigration, Identity and Intermarriage’ opens on March 29 at the Skirball Cultural Center on Mulholland near the 405 freeway. Using old home movies, the exhibit invites viewers to watch vivid moments from the lives of ordinary families that illustrate the personal experiences of California Jews. Among the stories are the Chaikins of Boyle Heights, whose children grew up alongside Latino and Japanese neighbors; Harriet and Fred Rochlin, a writer and an architect who met at Berkeley and collaborated on an illustrated history of pioneer Jews of the West; and Murrieta Hot Springs, which depicts how this distinctly Californian resort differed from better-known Catskills vacation resorts in the East.

Ad watchdog rules against Israel Golan Heights map
By Joseph Millis – Thursday 29th March 2012 The Israel Government Tourist Office in London has been forced to amend maps showing the Golan Heights after complaints to the Advertising Standards Authority. The ASA ordered the cancellation of IGTO’s promotion of a new book on northern Israel, saying the advert, first published in British newspapers in November 2011, did not properly demarcate the 1967 borders on the Golan Heights and the West Bank.
